WaterB> I'd recommend the Samsung 950P. Nicer picture quality than the flat screen CRTs they make, higher resolution abilities, and higher refresh rates at high resolution. Plus, it's cheaper than you might expect of a good 19" monitor.
I have th 955DF, and now wish I would've gone with the 950P. The 955DF looks a little washed out in comparison. I upgraded from a Princeton Graphics EO900, which is a beautiful monitor in it's own right, but the screen is a little too curved for me. I much prefer the flat screen of the 955DF as it really cuts down on glare, but the image quality of the EO900 is far superior.
The 950P is a nice median between the EO900 and the 955DF. The screen isn't flat, but is not nearly as curved as the EO900. The colors are bright and vivid. Not as bright as the EO900, but not nearly as washed out as the 955DF.
The 950P is a professional level monitor, so I'm sure that it would be sufficient for things like Photoshop work, etc.
Bob> There's no such thing. You get what you pay for.
However, in the bigger picture, the 950P is one of the better values out there. It usually runs a little lower than US$250 plus shipping.
It's not like it's that much of a hassle.
Anywhere you look to buy that monitor, they'll have the specs posted. I'm sure the hassle you experiences was about equal to the hassle of me typing in that URL.
Indeed. I think most professional level monitors would have a problem doing 1600x1200 @ 85Hz. That's pretty impressive.
Of course, with any monitor, the real issue is how it looks to the individual. Each person will see different things in the image, so only the individual can determine if it's the right monitor for them.
Yups, and I don't think I wanna invest £350 (UK Sterling .. www.dabs.com) in something I mighn't like .. I think I'll spend a bit more time looking around.
WaterB> I've been terribly disappointed with the Hitachi monitor's I've seen. They price them cheap, and I've felt that they looked the way they were priced.
The image geometry varies too much from monitor to monitor, which indicates poor QA. The colors aren't terribly vivid, and it's difficult to focus the image to get rid of fuzziness.
ok.. i got a Hitachi CM721F today.. it's a pretty good screen.. sharp text.. brightness level is only set to 50%.. when i had my viewsonic it was up to like the 70's..
at first i thought the entire left side looked a bit blurry.. but after i cleaned my contact lens it looks fine..
paid $249 at newegg.com.. i'd consider this monitor to be an excellant buy for the price.
i do have 1 small complaint about them though.. They don't have services for people to go pickup orders.. their location is like 15mins from my house.. but i still had to pay like $50 in shipping for Fedex..
