The 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus goes from a speed of zero to 100 kilometres an hour in 3.5 seconds.
The amazing thing about the 2014 Audi R8 isn't that its 5.2-litre V10 howls like the hounds of Hades as it shoots past 8,000 rpm. Or that, newly massaged with a freer-flowing exhaust and rejigging of the fuel injection electronics, it now pumps out a Ferrari-beating 550 horsepower.
It's not even that, after years of suffering with a Lamborghini-sourced single-clutch six-speed manumatic, the 2014's automated gearbox has finally been upgraded to a sophisticated dual-clutch DSG box (though, to be truthful, that does rank as second in the hierarchy of things to appreciate in this 2014 edition).
Nope, the most amazing thing about the new R8 - at least the attribute that continues to amaze me - is that, despite being more than six years old now - with no styling updates to keep it "current" - Audi's supercar still has the pulling power of a naked supermodel in the front row of an all-male church choir.
It's not supposed to be like this. Like fashion, music and art, supercar trendiness is normally ephemeral. One week, Leonardo DiCaprio is piloting your Italian supercar to the Oscars, the next, his gardener is driving it to Home Depot for fertilizer.
