Ok.....I have used AIM 2.0.1 for years
I have done this for a reason.
It's stable, it works, and it's not full of ugly and annoying options.
Well, it seems AIM has started.....well, I won't go into the technical info, but basically they made it so the older versions randomly crash now.
So, I was forced to upgrade.
I can't STAND this new crap.
The systray icon is ugly.
The smilies are ugly (i disabled them but i miss the "classic" smilies)
There is an Offline buddies section to the buddy list......I KNOW who isn't on, wtf do I need to visually see it...
And....the worst thing of all
the one thing I can't stand at all....
when you set an away msg or come back from being away
it pops up EVERY IM window you have open
I'm the type that likes to leave this up so it is incredibly annoying.
I know I can get used to this crap, blah blah blah
but i like things a certain way
and now they arent this way
so im pissed
thats all

Well, you're using a product which contains, in it's title, America Online.
By definition, it shouldn't work right.

I still dont see why people use AIM. The only time I tried to use it, it was a pain in the ****, and it didnt have capability of sending a message when the other person is offline.

Hmm...that is kinda annoying.
I only started using AIM when I started using forums, as most of my friends offline use MSN or ICQ.

Most of my Highschool friends used AOL, so that's why i got it, and I never saw any point deleting it, so that's my excuse

I've been using ICQ for longer though and agree it's a better program IMO, but running both at the same time, doesn't hurt anything.

Most of the people I know use AIM, so that's what I use. I actually like Yahoo Messenger, better, but too few people I know use it.

I still use ICQ. It works better than any of the other PM programs, has a larger user base than most of them, and doesn't have any of the bugs that the others do.
Support for those behind firewalls could be better, but it's not that big an impact on most people.

Despite AOL trying to rip all of the features out of ICQ and putting them into AIM, they still can't get it right.
It's funny how one well written program can still work so well in comparison to so many other similar programs with the same feature set. Just shows you what good programming can do...

I use it because almost everyone I (including my family) know uses it. I do prefer ICQ though It is much better and not so anoying.

moonsee&gt; What issues do you have with ICQ's chat?

Considering they basically use the same interface as AOL's chat rooms, or you can set it up for each user having their own window (which can get hectic)...
