can't figure out what it is about these companies - crappy customer service, hard-to-navigate websites, not enuf funding?

all i know is, i saved so much money last christmas using all these codes, and whatnot. hope this isn't a trend that will continue - and laying off almost 200 people - this isn't good.

You can't even imagine how much money I saved through VA last year.

A brief list:
Toshiba DVD player - Normally $300, paid $120
NEC laser printer - Normally $350, paid $160
High Capacity toner cartridge for the NEC - Normally $90, paid $45
Diamond Rio 500 MP3 player - Normally $250, paid $100
Entrega Parallel->USB converter - Normally $30, paid -$5 (yes, I made money after rebates)
MCSE Core Exam Cram 4-pack - Normally $100, paid $20
32MB SmartMedia cards - Normally $100, paid $40 each
3Com Webcam - Normally $60, paid $25

Needless to say, I could very well be solely responsible for VA's demise.

I'd say their prices are the reason they went under.

another reason is they're all practically giving stuff away w/all these coupons and codes, etc. (not that i mind), but it makes you wonder how long they can keep doing that ...

liltaz> Their prices are actually unreasonably high, but when they start giving away over $170 to each account, usuable towards up to 50% off each purchase, the prices were impossible to beat.

They only left it that way for a few months, but it doesn't look like they were ever able to recover.

They probably should have waited until they were better established and had the means to practically give things away like that before they did it.

More than anything, it was just a bad business decision.
