Apple Mac Terminal Not Accepting Password

I am aware that when you type a password in Terminal it is like you are not typing at all and the only key on the keyboard that seems to do anything is " enter "

However I have just reset my pass and entered it 5 times with no luck. Has anyone else come into this problem ?
