I've been a feminist ever since I've learned what this word means and I was suprised when I grew up and noticed that for some people feminism is a word that has negative connotations. I think that an unfair stereotype of feminism and feminists is really damaging for women.

Women still earn less than men do for the same work, sexual harassment victims are often left without any help or justice, government wants to regulate our sex life and politicians try to push bills that would force us to give birth no matter what. Yet some people still see feminism as a silly whim of people with too much time on their hands.

Some people think up words like "equalist" to distance themselves from feminist movement, which is pretty silly. The idea that feminism needs to focus more on men's rights is like saying that organizations dealing with race issues should think more about white people. Yes, men have some problems too, but maybe let's focus on our problems first? We already have a lot to deal with.

Feminists irk me. They often tend to be pushy, moronic ****es who think that if I don't agree with them, I'm unsympathetic for the "horrors" women face on a daily basis. The whole idea of "we don't need men" is laughable because without men you wouldn't even be alive. But of course, they forget this, because they're idiots. In many cases women have more rights than men. But when men want to get those rights equaled, the feminists lash out with STOP OPPRESSING US OH MY GOD

Morons.

Also, bra burning makes me ****ing laugh. "We burn our bras to show our stance against men trying to control us!" You stupid cow bras were INVENTED by a woman

As a guy, I'm all for gender equality.

From what little I know about feminism, however, that's not what it is.

Feminism is trying to get gender equality by focusing on the struggles of one gender. It's a self-contradicting and misleading cause.

I believe in gender equality, but there is next to no chance of me ever titling myself as a feminist.
Most feminists claim to want equal rights, but in reality they're actually aiming for more rights - which in many cases we already have.

Gender equality will never be a thing, two genders that are not equal can never have the exact same rights, sometimes women get the short end of the stick, and sometimes men do, we need to get over it.

No, and feminists are scum who want nothing other than to gain privileges and strip men of rights while disrupting the balance of nature. The myth of men earning more than women has been debunked 75949999 times. See more here:

We, as a species, have come this far thanks to biologically determined gender roles. Men are naturally the hunters/providers, and are naturally better at working with their hands, and making well-thought out decisions based on logic after careful deliberation. We are naturally stronger and more athletic too, thanks to our testosterone levels. Women are better at raising the children and reading peoples' emotions. They have a very small fraction of the testosterone men have, and are naturally not suited to doing hard work. They also make decisions based on emotion and feeling, which makes them less suited to holding positions of power. That's that. Gender roles are determined by nature, not society. Feminists need to realise this, and stop trying to disrupt the natural balance.

I'll be honest I know nothing about feminist and want to know nothing about them. I think in unsteady times like this, feminism is a luxury that we can't afford to entertain.

I wouldn't say I'm a feminist. I believe in gender equality, or as close to it as we can get.

Remember that not all feminists are bra-burning hysterical people, thanks to the stereotype feminists have been given, people seem to forget that.
No one should be shamed to call themselves feminist, or automatically put into the same box as the feminists that attract the negative attention. There probably isn't actually that many OTT feminists, they just get more publicity because of their more extreme beliefs and campaigns.

I agree with this completely and by the responses on this thread, it's clear that this stereotype is still very strong. I'm a feminist but I'm not some "moronic ****" who burns bras and hates on men! I just admire inspirational women who have fought against men (mainly centuries ago) for their own rights, they didn't just take it how it came and accepted it. I believe women should be equal in every sense of the word but unfortunately, that's still not the case. This article may help people to understand modern, non extreme feminism a bit more.

Since I'm very sexist and the head of the " Sexism Tastes Better Than Weed " movement, I certainly despise feminism and feminists. Not mention that I believe feminism is stupid and meaningless in this era. Plus, feminists usually happen to unintentionally be the people who I'd hate most as persons.

Rebecca Chambers, and Pato, your comments contained (respectively) "****es" and "scum", which was totally unnecessary in your arguments.
To all of you, keep it civilized please. We don't need to throw insults at eachother for differences of opinion. Respect other's points of view.

I'm a feminist in that I believe in gender equality but I'm also a sexist in that I think there's considerable, unresolvable differences between men and women. That said, I think that there's a large possibility that the considerable differences I know may only exist as a result of societal pressure and gender inequality.
