- Make sure that you ALWAYS link to the news item that you're quoting from. All post editors have a little link button you can use to add a link, or you can use the BBCODE helpto look up how to use the URL tag to create a link manually. Do not simply copy and paste posts from other websites, since this may constitute copyright infringement and can lead to lawsuits against GeneralForums.com. To add a link you can do the following:
- Mark the URL of the article in the browser's address bar, then hit Ctrl-C (or select Copy from the context menu). If your browser's address bar doesn't display a complete URL (like Opera does sometimes), click on it, then press Ctrl-A followed by Ctrl-C.
- Alternatively, you can hover your mouse pointer over a link to a news item, and look at the browser's status bar. If it shows a URL, hit the right mouse button to open the context menu, then select "Copy Link Address" or similar.
- Both actions copy a URL onto the system's clipboard.
- Create a link and paste the address into it using Ctrl-V (or Paste from the context menu):

- Please keep opinionated news articles (that mix news and opinion) out of the News forum. There's the Debate Crater subforum just for this purpose. This also encourages discussion about topics. But the articles in the News section (the first posts in those threads) should be free of personal opinion. Otherwise, the value of the News forum as a news source is compromised. We do not want to endorse certain views or influence public opinion. This can also have legal ramifications if someone thinks we're trying to stir up public opinion into a certain direction.
- Cultural neutrality: Try to avoid imagery that is considered indecent or offensive in some cultures. This forum is intended to be readable by all audiences. Don't post images of dead bodies, for instance, even if considered acceptable in your culture. In some countries, this might also result in a lawsuit against General Forums.
- Threads that do not conform to these few guidelines will be edited and/or moved accordingly. Repeated violation may result in infractions.
