A bundle containing a coconut and two lemons triggered panic in a temple in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, bringing the bomb disposal squad rushing to the world heritage monument.

The red bundle was spotted by an employee of the Archaeological Survey of India, which maintains the Brihadeeswara Temple, in the town of Thanjavur, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.

The employee noticed a wire sticking out of the bundle, and alerted the police, the United News of India reported.

An inspection by the bomb-disposal squad found the bundle contained only a coconut and lemons.
