And this is why I disagree when anyone says arranged marriage is a good thing.
Just wanna say real fast:
Child marriage =/= arranged marriage. It's not really the same thing. In this case, as a child marriage, it would be considered a 'forced marriage', which is where one or both parties have no say in the matter. These days many arranged marriages involve each party having a say-so in the matter, and it's either consent to the actual marriage or consent given to a third party to find a spouse (like matchmaking). Arranged marriages are not really good or bad. Child and forced marriages, however, are bad.
But I'm just being insistent upon technical terminology because I really hate it when people confuse the two and think arranged marriages are the same as forced marriages. Also I just hate it when people use incorrect terminology.
Anyway, this is an awful thing and hopefully the practice will end. As a child this girl wouldn't have been able to consent to a marriage in the first place. That aside, she was obviously too young to be having intercourse (I mean, duh) so her parents were not only horrible, but ****ing stupid. Even if you wanna force your child into a marriage, then at least wait until they're biologically ready to have intercourse so, you know, **** like this doesn't happen and they die. And that doesn't even begin to touch on how horrible this guy this poor girl was married to is. I mean, wow. Just... wow. Oh and FYI, I just want to state that, yes, I'm saying 'intercourse' because I'm talking in a biological context. In this situation, it's so obviously rape, no debate about it. Just wanted to state that in case anyone was reading what I was saying differently.
But, just, oh God, how awful. I mean she was eight! Eight! Holy Christ, what is wrong with people?! This dude was over
40 after all (8 x 5 is 40 and they said he was over 5x the girls age) so he should have enough sense to know something like this would have happened (her parents as well!). I mean I know he's clearly a pedophile, but, come on man...
I do sincerely hope the police and government do something to put a stop to this, but I get the feeling they wont since they have not already. If they haven't caught up on the times by now, I doubt they will ever. But there's always the hope that if people **** and complain enough, **** will change, and while normally I don't like the 'squeaky wheel gets the oil' mentality... in this case it's a good thing. People should be ****ing and complaining about this since it's so blatantly and obviously wrong!
In short: this is ****ing sick... is it still considered wrong to burn people at the stake, or do you think society would make an exception for these complete barbarians?
