April 4 — George W. Bush still would have gotten more votes than Al Gore even if the U.S. Supreme Court hadn't halted the manual recount in Florida, according to a comprehensive analysis of uncounted ballots.

I saw that on the news tonight. Why are they still bringing this up. Would they really bring Gore into office if they though he may still have won. Seems silly.

Exactly why I still believe those ballots should have been burned as soon as the supream court ruled. I just think it causes confusion for our country and makes us look stupid(either way that it turns out the fact that we are still counting has to look bad) I mean Bush won being that he is in office and that much cant be disputed.

It's basically statistics for you. My brother and I talked about this, when this mess was going on. I told him that once you have a large enough statistical sample, that counting a in a little more data (e.g. the undervotes and other uncounted ballots) will not adversely effect the sample (outside of the variance, that is). My theory seemed to hold true.

Thus, Prox is right...they should have burned those things.

They should not have burned those things. This is history we're talking about. Of course it is too late to reverse any decisions, but attempting to find out what happened is important. Even if we locked them in a room for 50 years, which is generally the amount of time that historians wait before they evaluate presidential administrations etc., in order to ensure that the people involved are a bit less biased.

Although it may seem problematic for the media to report on this, they have every right. Also, I think the U.S deserves to look stupid for this blunder. Hopefully looking stupid will force states to eliminated punchcard voting.

Those things are what decides the fate of our country for years to come...futher more the way we handle these issues mirror how our election system actually works and how "we the people" are represented. We cannot go back but in order to go forward we must understand what took place.
