California Mom Leaves Kids Outside In Cold

A California mom ended her trip to McDonald’s in handcuffs. Farris Martin, 39, was busted after she left her 9-year-old and 4-year-old in the bushes in 44-degree weather as she ate inside, CBS Sacramento reported. Police came to the scene after a good Samaritan, David Hernandez, saw the children waiting outside the Sacramento restaurant by themselves more than 30 minutes. "Huddled up real close together, teeth chattering, just totally freezing," he told the TV station. Hernandez, who said he is also homeless, called police who came and put the children in their warm patrol car — and waited for their mom to return from dinner. Martin, who was reportedly intoxicated, was arrested and charged with endangering the life or health of a child.

If the children had perished, the mother would be facing stiffer penalties, which makes no sense since the fact that her children survived was a matter of luck.
