Comet ISON hurtling toward the Sun at a whopping 48,000 miles per hour is captured in this time-lapse image made from a sequence of pictures taken May 8, 2013, by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.
NASA has announced that streaking of a comet called ISON will take place on July 4. The month also brings along the Delta Aquarids meteor shower to treat the stargazers.
This comet is named after the International Scientific Optical Network, Russia, as it was discovered by two Russian astronomers named Vitali Nevski and Artyom Novichonok with the help of 0.4-meter (16 in) reflector.
It is also called a sun grazing comet because it oases by the perihelion of the Sun, which is a point on the orbit which is closest to the Sun. This skyrocket-like comet is flying by the Sun presently at an immense speed of 48,000 mph.
The comet was last seen by NASA on 8 May, 2013 by using its Hubble Space Telescope.
It was found that this comet was not blazing like other comets, and was comparatively colder. Comet's skyrocket-looking tail was like a streamer of gas and dust bleeding off the frosty nucleus, which is surrounded by a bright star-like, appearing like a coma. The solar wind pressure sweeps the material into a tail, like a windsock being blown by a breeze.
