Computer acting wacky

Well my moms laptop does that too. Who knows what it is. Probably just means it's getting dirty and stuff...

I know it's a silly question, but one should never overlook the obvious...
Have you cleaned the mouse?

If it's a laptop, the pointing devices tend to wear out, and get imbalanced, over time. I've seen that happen with both trackpads and touchpoint devices. Sometimes nudging it back towards center will fix the drift temporarily.

Yup, cleaned the mouse the other day.
I've already thought of wear and tear, but the thing is - it keeps taking on a life of it's own until I reboot the comp, then it's fine.

Did you try using a different mouse in the machine? Did you try that mouse in a different machine?

It could possibly be a short inside the mouse. After all, there are electronic components in there that can fail.

Try and get an optical mouse, since it's nearly impossible to get dirty and screw up
(plus, you can browse will sitting back and using your leg, I do that a lot)
