LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Daytime television viewers -- considered to be among America's most conservative audiences -- will see their first on-screen lesbian kiss next week, ABC television said on Monday.

The kiss will take place during the April 22 episode of the Emmy-award winning soap opera "All My Children," making what ABC said would be a first in the world of daytime television.

It comes in a scene featuring gay teen character Bianca Montgomery (Eden Riegel), who came out as a lesbian in 2000, and her new friend Lena (Olga Sosnovska) who "in a moment of truth and true love ... comes to terms with her feelings."

"All My Children" has tackled a number of controversial topics during its 33 years on the air including AIDS, abortion, drug abuse, racial bias and teenage alcoholism.

No offense to you, Alien, but....

Whoop-de-doo!

We should be so lucky that everyone would have such a cavalier attitude toward such an event. However, Ma Brown and her sister Ellie Sue watching in Kansas or Oklahoma will likely start a letter-writing campaign because they "would dare to display such immorality on television".

It's frightening how conservative some parts of this country are. They put some folks in Texas to shame.

I think the responses to this thread so far says something about the quality of the people here.

I read this and thought..."this is news? pfft...", and it's good to see people tolerant enough to agree.

I can think of other forums where I could have a three-year flame war on the same topic. ;)

Well, keep in mind that the population of the US isn't as open-minded to sex-related matters as many other countries in the world.
Also, our US contingent here on AS is comprised mostly of people from more open-minded parts of the country. Not too many Bible Belt'ers here. Even though their are conservative people in the Northeast and Upper Midwest parts of the US, they are NOTHING in comparison to conservatives from places like Alabama, Mississippi, and Oklahoma.

They still beat a good percentage of humanity. ;)

Which is exactly why I love the people here. ;)

Hey,

After seeing multiple posts mentioning how this isn't news, I wanted to post a quick note:

This item was meant as just something humorous given all the serious news as of late. It was a silly article I saw where I occasionally get entertainment news. I get dozens of these things across my desk everyday and occasionally just toss one out when I'm so inclined. This article or it's "type" should by no means be seen as a reflection of anything I care about! I'm sure most of you already realize this, but I'm just saying...

Now with that out of the way, I gotta get going.. I have a rather naughty movie to watch, then have to get to bed early because I'm sharing breakfast with some lesbians. Goodnight.

I can see what Dan is saying, totally. To me it's so unimportant but to others it is a big moral issue.

Hehehe I never saw it, but I'll see if we can find the relevant pictures on the net! ;)

... :D

We had some lesbian action on TV in '97 I think, it got a quite a bit of newspaper coverage. :p
