Do you have a care credit account?

This is a credit card just for medical expenses. My son is having his wisdom teeth out and even after our insurance we have to pay $750. I was thinking about opening this account since the office said we have 12 months to pay with no interest.

We would have to pay monthly on it anyway, and with no interest this looks appealing.

I'm wondering what your experience has been.

Thanks!

We have done those payment plans for about 10 years now. We have never had a problem... as long as you don't miss a payment or are late. Like any other credit card promotion... if you do either of those two things they will change the terms. Other than that... we have never had a problem with care credit... and are actually paying off one son's dental surgery bill with it right now. HTH :)

We have used Care Credit before. All good as long as you don't miss any payments or be late, and you must pay the entire balance before the final due date or you will be charged the accrued interest fees for the entire period.

If you are disciplined it is nice "free" cash flow.

I used something like this a few years ago when I didn't have any dental insurance. Had to get a root canal on one tooth and something done to another tooth. They suggested it at the dentist office - I was able to apply right there on the phone and was able to take a year to pay it off with no interest.

We have used it in the last couple of years, it has really saved us. We have dental but they only cover a limited amount, and the dentist always wants his money up front! One account is paid off and still working on the other, no issues as long as it's paid on time.

I don't know where I've been, but when I heard about this, I thought it was great.

What sucks is that I do have blue cross/blue shield insurance, but they don't contract with any oral surgeons. So I have to pay out of network costs and then whatever is beyond "reasonable and customary" which is $750!

Thanks!

I've never heard of this. Interesting concept! Are all medical bills interest free for a year with this card or is it a special promotional rate?

We have used this many times in the past and LOVE it. They give you a certain amount of time to pay, I believe it's a year interest free.

Here are some tips:

Don't miss a payment, or be late with a payment or your accrued interest will be charged. Same thing if you go past your dead line to pay it off.

I did this once (went past the deadline) cost me $300 DOH!

Here's what I do:

Set up automatic Bill Pay through my online banking to send out my payment each month, that way if I won't forget. I make sure that those payments will pay off the entire balance before the deadline. This is a great way to make sure you don't forget and get slammed with the interest!

I don't remember all the detail now since it was quite a few years ago. I was supposed to pay over $800 to have all four wisdom teeth out. To my surprise, my wisdom teeth were impacted (don't know what that means). Anyway, my dental and health insurance just took care of all the cost. I ended up not having to pay anything.

Mary, call the office and explain they are out of network--would they match the network price? My friend just did that--and they agreed--they didn't want to lose the business and they agreed to contract it down
Also, depending on if they are partial boney or full boney--you can also go through your medical account--if they are full--then your major medical will kick in and then go through your dental afterwards.
Call me--and I can tell you what my friend did--and what she told us to do if we do Kristine's or Jennifer's teeth both need it--but no money--so we are waiting---same with the orthodontist--no money--so have to wait--

Kathy, these are impacted and it does go through my medical account. Blue Cross/Blue Shield had NO in-network oral surgeons. They do not contract them, so there is no in-network price through them.

This is only covered through major medical and the $750 is after they pay. The only "deal" here is that I've already paid my deductible this year or it would cost more!

Did you check these two:
Nickel, Willliam Louis, DDS
2160 S 1st Ave
Maywood, IL 60153
(708) 216-9000
Oral Surgery
Szpaderska, Anna M, DDS
2160 S 1st Ave
Maywood, IL 60153
(708) 216-9000
Oral Surgery

I don't know which BCBS/IL plan you have, so maybe they aren't on yours.

That is odd--we have blue cross blue shield of Illinois--and we have oral surgeons included--what it does -is cover them as medical--then we submit our dental after--
A friend of ours worked for an oral surgeon in Glen Ellyn--she told us how to get it covered under both
she just helped another friend by calling the office--and saying that they are not in the plan--will the give the in plan rate--they said YES--it cut off over 750 from her bill

Our dental only covers non-impacted teeth, so this has to go through the major medical only.

I've spent LOTS of time on this one. Calling both dental and major medical and the office. We have really good health insurance, so I was surprised they didn't contract oral surgeons, but maybe that's their way of keeping our premiums low. Well, not low enough for me, but lower than most people I've talked to.

Since the doctor is not in the network, we are responsible for anything over "reasonable and customary" charges. From what I've learned over the past few years, those are pretty unreasonable and do not get updated often. Costs have gone up so much over the years, they need to reflect that for all of us.
