Drawing the line

Where's the line between changing who you are to become a better person and staying true to yourself? I find this very fascinating because many people don't give this much thought. On one hand, humans must change and become better people through experiences, but you always hear the saying, "Always be yourself." So, what becomes too excessive in changing who you are versus still being, "you?" Discuss.

Moved to debate section :)

I really think that if you feel you exhibit a behaviour and then you realise it receives very negative results, you should try and change it. For example, if you're very blunt and it hurts feelings, you should avoid being so blunt maybe just with that person. You should also alter your sensitivity and levels of respect for different people.

As for being "you".
I don't know who I am exactly because I'm different with different people. There's different versions of me and I don't feel like I'm being fake. I just adjust my behaviour with different people in order to get along with them.
You should be "you" but if you choose to act completely the way you want, you should not then become confused as to why some people don't get along with you because you just can't be everyone's cuppa tea.

There's probably a very fine line. Objectively, I'm not sure there's any solid answer. More subjectively, I'd say that the line is crossed when a person changes who they are against their genuine will. Personally, it's less about how others perceive the individual and more about how the individual perceives themselves and whether or not they want to change.

My general line of thinking is that it's good to at least attempt to "fit in" enough to be productive. Don't suppress integral parts of yourself in the process, though.

Being true to yourself is or can be - being that better person.

being "you" is about soul heart and so on -

I don't think the two clash with each other, really. I believe it's a reasonable nature of the development of your " Self " as a person to be characterized with your geniune color and shaped by the experiences and thought you have come across in life.
