Since I'm just catching this now, this was reported as a false alarm shortly after the initial reports.
Just wanted to put everyone's minds at ease...
Smiss> Regarding the Statue of Liberty, a coworker and I were discussing this as the WTC events were unfolding on Tue. morning.
My thought was that while it's a very prominent symbol of America, it is something that can be rebuilt and replaced, as difficult as that might be to do. For the terrorists, the attack on the WTC not only stuck a landmark, but at people's lives as well.
With so many people working there, and having so many people in the area knowing at least someone who works in those buildings, or in the nearby area, they're causing much more of a disruption in people's lives than if they'd simply destroyed a statue.
Look at what's happened in the last few days. If they had just attacked the Statue of Liberty, the FAA may not have grounded all flights, the Stock Exchange probably wouldn't have been affected, and New York City's regular progress wouldn't have been impacted nearly as much. People would've been shocked, but a statue can be replaced. People's lives cannot.
