And another day of unpacking awaits. I want to try and get the rest of the book boxes unpacked today...not put up, just unpacked. That will make a BIG difference in what is left out in the garage. We will actually be able to make sense of the rest.

Dh and I were talking thru what we needed to refurnish that furniture. We have a mouse sander so we are okay there. But we need some clamps to keep the pieces together after we re glue the ones that have fallen apart. Then we need hardware: drawer pulls, etc. And we need wood oil to make it look pretty after we finish.

Gonna be another hot/humid day. :harhar: Liz

Oh no! You really don't want to sand antique wood. I'd recomend you try this system. Formbys
It leaves the aged patina of the wood, and even redistrubutes some of the old finish. Using this system and an assortment of Q-tips, steel wool and rags will bring that furniture back to it's glory. If you need more help, let me know.

Yes, it is Friday and still no rain in sight. (maybe Mon.?) Things are really dry around here. The dang rain has been skirting north and south of us for three weeks. After de-pooping, I plan to water the back lawn. Ekkk!

I think we'll wander over to the park again Sunday. Mom likes the music and people. The flower plantings are quite unique.

BD, the furniture is old...but it has never been well cared for. There is no real finish on it and it's very roughly made.

Let me go check out that site...and I will ask if before we do anything once I get to the furniture and spread it out.

That peacock is beautiful.

Okay, I checked out the Formby's...that's for stripping finish off...this wood has no finish on it. Well, maybe a wood oil that has long since disappeared. But it is basically bare wood at this point. Liz

Morning y'all! Looks like it's gonna' rain here some more, even though the barometer is slightly raising. And the pressure is getting way beyond my comfort zone!

I've helped with refinishing a couple of old pieces of furniture. I've helped with a sewing cabinet, a freestanding cupboard, a dresser, and a couple of other pieces. We completely sanded the sewing cabinet and put on a stain that is supposed to make it look old like it was, which it did to some extent, but I was highly disappointed with the results. We sanded the cupboard and just lacquered it, and it looked like a brand new piece of old furniture; like something that you might buy new that resembles the old. I liked that alot! But, we used the Formbys' kit on the dresser and worked our butts off on that one. It came out looking like a well-preserved piece of very old furniture. I liked it the best. But that's my opinion of those. My Mom loved the sewing cabinet the best; my brother liked the cupboard the best, and I liked the dresser the best. What can I say? It may depend on what you want and how much work to put in it.

Gee, I'm still in the process of finishing a room, building some steps, building a whole wall bookshelf/cabinet, building an entry way mantle with coat hooks, and the list goes on. I don't want to think about it right now!

That's a beautiful peacock, BD.

HAGD!

We’re back! It was a really nice time we had out in Las Vegas with the worst being the very high temperatures. I know it reached 114 the day we arrived…whew! I have come to the decision I cannot live in the southwest due to the heat…at least not during June, July, and August! Lol

We weren’t able to go visit Hoover Dam nor the Grand Canyon, but instead opted to sightsee on the Strip, seeing the Paris, Bellagio, Caesar’s Palace, the Flamingo, the Mirage, the Venetian, and Harrah’s casino/hotels where we stayed. I did take some pictures which I will share once I download them off the camera.

The wedding went very smoothly and everyone looked great. I liked the minister or Justice of the Peace (not sure what his title really was). He was easy to talk to and handled everything nicely. The reception was great with tons of food and lots of folks got up to dance. I’m glad Allie decided to go with the dance floor and music from the iPod.

Allie and Mike are now honeymooning in Italy for two weeks. Jack and I will go check on their house periodically while they’re gone.

I’m glad to be home again and just about all caught up here at home...now to read what all happened in my absence!

Carol

Welcome Back, Carol WE MISSED YOU!!!!

Can't wait to see photos. Too bad about Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. Liz

Okay still tired, but I'll live..........

We went last night to see the elk.... how cool they were. I'll post pics when I get the film developed.

We leave tomorrow morning for Williamsburg VA.. and will be back on Monday evening...

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Liz... glad your reclaiming that garage... sure would be nice to have a car parked in there the next time it rains.. LOL

BD sorry about the no rain, we had 3 hours of thunder and lightening last night.. and five mins of rain... oh so not helpful. Those flowers are great... wish they would do something like that around here.

Dave so sorry about the weather... wish there was something that could be done to help you.

Carol, Welcome home.. I'm glad the wedding was a success.... I'm sure the kids will have a grand time in Italy.

Finally finished reading the week's worth of posts...
LIZ: Glad you found a new dr. Congrats to Charles on getting his NCDL. Glad you made headway for when you can actually buy a new car. I know you had your hopes up. lol I hate car-shopping! Freecycling is great, isn't it? I need to get busy gathering up things to post too. ROFL at the "JR" saga...good luck, Charles! I'm glad you are working on clearing up the boxes too. Are you going to need to buy more bookcases?

BD: I'm glad your mom is moving along getting into her new apt. How neat she was able to accompany you when you drove the shuttle bus. I sure wish I could have gotten my mom into one of those places. Then she'd meet other people. ~sigh~ SB, congrats on getting your driver's license!!! Just remember to stay to the right! lol

DAVE: I'm really sorry to hear about all your "bad" days. How is Matt doing now? I'm glad you knew the steps he would go through before he'd have a seizure so you could anticipate it.

A'LIZ: Paul Newman is getting up there in age, but he still looks great!

KELLY: You just exhaust me! I'm glad you are visiting all these places though. It's fun!

Today I opened the briefcase to look at the bills...had to pick dh up off the floor when I told him the total we'd need through the 18th of the month. He had forgotten about a couple of the large bills we had incurred. Then I washed the mountain of sheets and our comforter off the bed. I love the smell of clothes fresh off the clothesline! I have Coq au Vin in the crockpot for dinner. House sure smells great! lol

Carol

Welcome back, Carol! And glad your trip went well Italy!!??!? Sure hope they go to Florence, my favorite place in the whole wide world. You know, with you having access to their house, you could maybe do a few tricks.....:Coopwink: (there was a very good reason Hubby and I took our apartment keys WITH us when we honeymooned!)

Bozodog, that peacock is amazing! What is the "body" made of? Wire mesh of some sort?

AnotherLiz

Oh A'Liz, you BAD girl!!! lol We wouldn't ever dream of doing anything naughty like that. :Coopwink: Yes, they planned on visiting Rome, Florence, and Venice. I'm so looking forward to seeing pictures when they get back.

Carol

Actually I have some places in this house to tuck books...so no, I don't need new bookcases. That and I had gotten my stash of books down to about 2 standard bookcases and one little one with a little bit of overflow. Here, I have a ledge in both the living room and the master bedroom up near the ceiling. Ideal for those books you don't really want to read but want to keep.

And then my kitchen cabinets do not go to the ceiling. It's a perfect spot to run a set along one side. We actually cleared up about another 8 boxes today. Not bad. Liz

Welcome back, Carol, and we're all anxiously waiting pics. Italy for two months, wow! I hope they enjoy their time. Gee, I guess honeymooners enjoy their time wherever they are...

Have you ever taken a shower and then not felt clean and then taken another shower? I did that today after brushing a shedding Akita and Shiba Inu. (The Shiba is the small version of the Akita.) Those dogs really have two coats, long hair and short hair, that is conducive for their native high mountains where they are breed as bear dogs. Anyway, after brushing them, and I had on black shorts (mistake), I felt covered with hair and I showered. I don't know what put it in my mind, but I still felt like I had hair on me after that, so I showered again. Geemyknee!

And I know that Liz was busier than she talked about 'cause she helped me online for several hours, too. And remember that my Hunni sometimes calls me Jungle because I'm a little dense. LoL! So, many thanks to Liz and Coop. Of course, I plan on using them some more, so don't tell!

It got up to 94F and really hot and humid here today. The thunderstorms that we've had made more run off than water that actually soaked into the ground; so we still have lots of brown grass. We just need some gentle rains.

Later on!

How in the heck did Carol's two WEEKS become two MONTHS???? Liz

I was going to point out that very thing Liz... LOL

Well we are off again tomorrow headed for Williamsburg VA... should have a really nice time... the kids are excited, but M is a little bummed too, she will be sad to see her buddy go home. She is such a sweet girl, and is already talking about the visit her parents plan to make at Thanksgiving.

We will be back home again on Monday evening.... only to have another house full of company come on Saturday.... they will be here for a week, to be followed by the next batch of company... two more very busy weeks coming up...

Mom and Dad headed for Kentucky today... we probably won't see them when they come back... will most likely be back tomorrow or Sunday, and Mom said they will probably head home before we get back on Monday... they are pooped and ready to get home. Can't blame them they left home April 15, and have travelled 12,000 miles already, and have another 1,000 to go till they are home. I'll miss them though.

I am however looking forward to spending Tuesday doing not one gosh darn thing! No laundry, no running someone somewhere... maybe a trip to the pool for the girls if we feel like it... oh as to laying in the sun... are you kidding I wear a 55 sun block and can still only take about 30 mins... gotta find me a piece of shade if I want to sit in a chair...LOL and maybe just maybe a movie tuesday night with dh...

You all have a great weekend... and don't anyone over do it....

Kelly

Yoohoo, Dave, they're going to be gone only two WEEKS, not months! OMG! ROFLOL!

I'm glad you've had some help from the experts.

Kelly, have a great time this summer....soon enough you'll be complaining because things are so routine it's not funny! lol
