george w. bush arrested in 1976 for dui

Honestly, it's wrong, but I'm sure that all of the candidates have some skeletons in their closets - there's no honesty in politics...

My thoughts:

george Jr. has said that he had some youthful indiscretions and that he learned from his mistakes. He was arrested in 1976 at the age of 30ish. In 1986 he gave up drinking. So it takes him 10 years to learn from mistakes. Presidents last 4-8 years.

To me, age 30 is a bit late to blame youthful indiscretion. (Note to self: this excuse will last for me for a few more years as it was good enough for a presidential candidate and therefore good enough for me)

If he had mentioned this 8 months ago would we care now? No.

Did he actually think no one would find his criminal record? Why?

Has he ever, on an application, answered the question "have you ever been convicted" with a no? If he has, is it more akin to Clinton's stretching of the truth or more like Nixon's covering up? Hmm...

Well....

I think the most obvious point of interest here is
will any of this stuff stick and change the voters' plans....

quite frankly, even being a staunch liberal I must say that I cannot begrudge dubyah for the drinking and driving (though morally reprehensible)....I just want other people to begrudge him for it.

I saw on the news last night that there was a form for Jury Duty he received while Governor of Texas that had that little "ever been convicted, accused, blah blah blah" section...

It wasn't checked either way - there was no marking whatsoever. Bush's campaign aides have said that a gubernatorial aide was the one who filled out the form, and left blank the answers they didn't know. (According to these people there was more than one section left blank on the form).

Either way, it makes you wonder.

actually, this was mentioned months ago...only mentioned at that time in passing. Now, of course they decide to really make an issue of something that happened years ago that he's changed. who cares now?

I don't think the arrest was mentioned months ago. Is that what you meant?
