Hartlepool seized the advantage in their play-off semi-final against Tranmere by taking a 2-0 lead after the first leg at Victoria Park.
Adam Boyd netted a brace for the home side with his first coming from a smart finish after he controlled Jon Daly's knockdown and instantly slotted home.

Daly missed a gilt-edged chance when he blazed over but striker Boyd spared his blushes with a 20-yard strike.

Hartlepool held on for their first ever win in the play-offs.

Hartlepool manager Martin Scott:
"We are not the favourites. Tranmere are the big club and they have got the quality players.
"It went well but we are not getting carried away. It will be a massively important game when we play the second leg on Tuesday.

"We know it is going to be tough at Prenton Park. It is only half-time."

Tranmere boss Brian Little:

"It's going to be hard work for us now. The second goal has given them a huge boost.

"They scored goals at periods when we looked comfortable and I was disappointed with both goals.

"At home we will have a go and give them a game."
