New York, May 17 -- A Hofstra University senior allegedly stabbed to death a fellow student who rejected his sexual advances, and then proceeded to stash the body in a number of locations around Nassau County, police said.

Shaun Alexander, 23, of Dunwoody, Ga., was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder in the death of Max Kolb, 20, of Kingston, Mass. Alexander allegedly killed Kolb on April 25 at the Econo Lodge in Hicksville, less than 10 miles from the Hofstra campus, Lt. Frank Guidice said.

Guidice said Alexander made "some sexual advance toward" Kolb, who rejected him. Alexander allegedly used a kitchen knife to kill Kolb.

Alexander allegedly wrapped the body in plastic bags and a tarp and kept it in the back of his 2000 Land Rover for seven days before storing it at a storage facility in Garden City for five days. He then took the body to a house he had rented in Long Beach, Long Island, and buried it in the back yard.

Guidice said the two met when they were neighbors in a dormitory at Hofstra. He said police had yet to determine "how close a relationship they might have had."

Kolb, a sophomore, had been reported missing for nearly three weeks, and his disappearance had mystified family and investigators. Computer checks later showed Kolb had last attended class and used his cafeteria card on April 24.

Police were notified by Kolb's parents the following Saturday when he failed to show up for a dinner date with them at his dormitory, where he lived in a single room.

Guidice said a break in the case came from an anonymous tip that Kolb had last been seen leaving his dorm with Alexander at 1:30 a.m. on April 25. Alexander never came forward and gave police that information, Guidice said.
