National Hurricane center reports:
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIATCPAT5.html
NOTE...IN ADDITION TO THE STORM SURGE FLOODING...RECENT REPORTS INDICATE THAT STRONG NORTHERLY WINDS HAVE EMPTIED THE BAY OF CHETUMAL AND PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WALKING ACROSS THE BAY.
DEADLY STORM SURGE POSSIBLE IN THE BAY OF CHETUMAL
STORM SURGE FLOODING OF 9 TO 12 FEET ABOVE NORMAL TIDE LEVELS
That bay is approximately ~35 miles long and ~15 miles wide at it's narrowest point the best I can make out from these maps:
http://www.belize.net/html/maps/physicalmap.shtml
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/PCL/Map_collection/americas/Mexico.GIF
Can you imagine a surge of water ~12 ft higher than normal sea level rushing back into that bay if it iss empty?
That is of biblical proportions
