Is one better than the other? Do you have any sofas from either store? For IKEA how easy was it to put together? What about Value City? Do their sofas hold up? TIA.

My mother in law has a Vcity couch in her basement -she has had it for years--like almost 20.
we have ikea furniture-I don't think there is much assembly to do with couches from ikea--we have a small ( in between couch and love seat size) leather like couch from ikea in my basement where all the teens hang out--my ds has slept on it for the past 4 years when he comes home from college. it was CHEAP-a one day sale item--but it is still doing great

I have just spent a lot of time looking for furniture in MY budget--I dont expect this to last me more then 10 years--quite frankly my needs will be different in 10 years--LOL I saw GREAT looking stuff at VCF or Harlem room place or Ashley for cheap ( ok reasonable) and I saw $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ at other places that looked or felt no better-
I did make sure what I got had springs in the cushions and easily washable fabric

what we JUST ended up doing this weekend , and I was waiting to post about this until I got the furniture in my house, but I found a nice sectional at Ashley that was in our budget ( kind of) and met the size/style/color requirements for us. I said to dh come on lets go to the store and see what this week's price is (Lol) well he said "show me the picture one more time" ( I had a pic on my phone) -so we searched the name on Ashley.com to see if there were current prices he found the name of the set ( the sign was in the pic) and searched online for a price. He found the same exact set online at a retailer for almost 1/2 the cost-no tax -for the cost of the sectional only at Ashley ( not including delivery fees) I was able to get 2 chairs and the sectional delivered to my door. My girlfriend just ordered her furniture online this past Fall ( chairs and tables) and they are very nice for the price she paid so i am crossing my fingers..

We have a dual reclining leather sofa from VC--we quite like it and have had it for 4 or 5 years. If anything I wish it was a little less comfy, both dh and I have a tendency to fall asleep on it. No problems, including with the reclining mechanisms. I think the thing with VC isn't really a matter of quality but of selection. Let's be honest: they have a lot of ghastly stuff--but if you find something that you like I think you'll be fine.

We have sectional shelving and the like from Ikea but no true furniture--I don't particularly like the look of their stuff. But I'm fairly certain even Ikea doesn't make you assemble a couch.

Seriosly? Putting together a wine rack wall unit just about destroyed my marriage of 15 years--if you have to put together the sofa I vote against Ikea.

 Too funny...I wonder how many marriages have suffered from DIY furniture & projects. I know home building is an often sited reason for divorce.

We have some Ikea & some VCF furniture. My DH outfitted his entire apartment with VCF when he moved out of his house. It held up fine, but wasn't my style, so most of it is gone. The sofa seemed to be well made. I would buy a sofa there if I found one I liked...the one I am looking at for my living room is $500 & for $500, it's pretty much disposable when my kids ruin it in 3 years. ;)

I would never assemble Ikea furniture with DH. Why ruin a good thing? We'll see if we survive the attic remodel without either of us ending up stuffed in the rafters. I have a mighty list of Ikea stuff for my house. I like their stuff & the price. Haven't had any issues with the furniture holding up.

VCF has a crazy good leather & fabric replacement warranty...worth the $.

DD spilled nail polish (hot pink) on our black VCF couch (3 mos. old) REPLACED it.

A friend of mine had her set for a couple years, dog chewed it up. They don't carry that set any more so they REPLACED it with a brand new set.

If you have kids, pets or a sloppy DH (;)) you can't go wrong with this

Now that sounds like my kind of furniture store. :giggles: I'd love to get a new couch but I know it will just cause all sorts of anxiety. I'll just be waiting for the first scratch from the kitties, or when Sophie tries to dig her way through the cushions just to find a comfy spot, or when Molly & Daisy get pissed and decide to, well you know.

I haven't bought a new couch in probably over 25+ years. My cousin & his family moved in with for a few months in 1994 and brought some of their furniture with them, including a sectional couch. (A low to the ground, millions of sectional pieces, sectional couch.) They took some of their furniture with them when they moved out again but ended up leaving us with the couch. Took us forever to finally get rid of it a few sections at a time.

When we were down to our final few sections, a friend of mine was getting a new couch and I was so desperate to get rid of what we had, I asked her what she was doing with the old one. Well that became our new couch and loveseat.

Years later my neighbor was getting a new couch and asked if we wanted her old one. Well her old one basically looked brand stinking new. (I guess a Westie isn't as rough on a couch as bigger dogs are.) So of course I said yes and we got a new couch.

I'm really hoping someone will ask if I'd like their old couch soon but that's not looking too likely.

I was so stressed by the lack of progress in our home improvement before the holidays because I would like to put the kitchen back before Christmas. But then I paused and thought, no progress is worth a divorce!!
So far nothing has been completed to a stage that I could take pictures to show them off yet. I laid the tiles in kitchen, painted the walls, DH and I laid the laminate flooring in living room, family room and hallways, but need to install the trims. The kitchen is functional, as in I have a sink and a cooktop. LOL
Cabinets are still sitting on the floor, pendant lights not installed, ceiling not painted, yet to order the cabinet doors and drawers.

I'm shopping for leather sectional. Saw one I liked at steinhaffles for $3000 on sale, found similar at VCF for $2500. Wondering if anyone knows of a wholesale place for 100 percent leather. Can you negotiate with VCF?

Ooooh I like that!

It looks pretty & cozy but doesn't look like it would take up all the space in my fairly small living room.

Not that I'm buying anything right away, but I've always got a running list of projects/redo's going in my head. :giggles:
