This could have some very nasty complications for both Indonesia and the stability of the whole Oceania/South-East Asian region.
When President Suharto was thrown out, the students of Jakarta united, seizing Jakarta's parliament for several days.
However, in this case, they're equally split between supporters of President Wahid and Vice-President Megawati Sukarnoputri. This could cause quite a lot of bloodshed.
What complicates things even more is that, after the successful independence referendum in East Timor, many separatist movements within Indonesia have been stepping up their campaigns. Analysts out here have been suggesting that West Papua, Madura, Aceh, and others, could all break away in the near future.
Violence in the wake of Wahid's removal could prove the dream chance for these separatists. In the event of bloodshed, large amounts of Indonesian military forces would have to be sent to Jakarta. Thus the possibility of a mass-fragmentation of Indonesia - in the coming weeks.
