ok
here's the deal
i have a gateway keyboard with a bunch of multi-funtion buttons
one being the Sleep button
unfortunately my computer does not support "waking up" from the sleep mode, so once it is hit I have to reboot
"so don't hit it" you may say....well i never have, but my cat has takin a liking to sleeping on the desk!
i don't necessarily mind, until i am having a conversation or doing homework and he hits the sleep button!
is there any way that anyone knows of to disable this that doesnt include taping or removing the button?
ive checked the power management and multi-function settings only to find nothing
heeeeeeelp!

I will be honest that I don't know much about that button, but here are my ideas:

-Look to see what keyboard driver Windows has loaded. If it is not the 101/102 keyboard driver, then set to that. If it is already set to that, then that won't work.

-Is there a util you can download to disable that button?

-Is there a setting in the BIOS to disable that button?

Maybe one of these will work. Good luck.

I have the same button. My computer will wake up if you hit the button again or wiggle the mouse etc., but it does tend to have trouble waking up. I assume because the hard drive shuts down and doesn't wake back up. I've had that problem on laptops that were set to shut down their hard drives after a time when using batteries.

That being said I have no solution and never hit the button and have no animals napping in the vicinity. I think the simplest solution would be to use a different, less "intelligent" keyboard. The only other fancy buttons on my gateway keyboard that I have ever used are the volume and cd skip buttons. I seldom use them and could certainly live without them.

of course I like quick, low-tech solutions

Not sure if it's an option, but if you disable Power Management, the Sleep button won't function anymore, since the Sleep function won't operate.

unfortunately i have to use power management to some degree
(this computer is nothing but trouble)
basically if i leave my monitor totally off too long it doesn't kick back in, so i have the monitor turn off using power management settings
argh
i may be stuck
