OXFORD, England (Reuters) - Michael Jackson will call Tuesday evening for a renewal of the parent-child bond as he launches a children's initiative from Oxford's venerable debating chamber, university officials said.
Jackson was expected to propose in a lecture that a "Children's Universal Bill of Rights" be installed in every home.
His choice of good cause could raise some eyebrows -- in 1993 a 12-year-old boy accused Jackson of sexually molesting him. The singer denied any wrongdoing and no criminal charges were ever filed but he settled the matter out of court for an undisclosed sum.
Jackson, 42, has two children of his own by his former wife Deborah Rowe, who filed for divorce in 1999. He also was married briefly to Elvis Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie.
An advance copy of the lecture indicated that Jackson would appeal for parents to read children bedtime stories and that children always be protected and adored. He was to lament the violence that is invading American schools, saying children should have the right to an education without having to dodge bullets.
