I'm looking into getting a 4-port KVM switch. I have some hefty requirements, the strictest of which is low price. I also need one with good visual quality at high resolution, and support for high refresh rates at those resolutions.

Normally, I run my system at 1280x1024 @ 85Hz. My server doesn't need as high a refresh rate, but it would be nice.

I've singled out 2 possibilities so far; the Linksys ProConnect Console, and the Cybex AutoView.
I've used high-end Cybex KVMs at work, and they're great, but a little on the pricey side. The Linksys seems to have gotten good reviews, and is much less expensive.

Anyone used either of these, or have other recommendations?

i currently am using the lynksys 2port.. it's real nice.. light.. only problem i have w/ it is that cables are coming out on all 4 sides.. i liked the KVM's w/ the ports and connectors all in the back.. more neat that way..

WaterB> That's exactly why I'm willing to spend more money than the Linksys Compact model, and am leaning towards the Console model, which is as you described.

Here's a crappy picture of the Console version:

You're right, it's more neat that way.
At my old job, we used Cybex AutoView Commanders, and they were great. No problems switching back and forth, keyboard AND button control, but a little out of my price range.

Cybex Autoviews are great. Also used one at work. This is a good topic to post as I, like Dan, am starting to look for a good one. Same requirements.

JH> I ended up going with the Linksys ProConnect Console over the Cybex SwitchView, for a few reasons.

1) Higher refresh rates and high resolution support.
The Linksys can do 1600x1200 @ 153Hz, which is more than enough for any video card/monitor combo. The Cybex claims 1600x1200 @ 75Hz.

2) Price.
I got the Linksys for about $120 including 2 sets of cables. The Cybex SwitchView would've run me over $160.

3) Features.
The Linksys got great reviews, especially in the area of visual quality at hi-res.
Another feature the Linksys has that I loved is the ability to access the PCs via keyboard OR manual switch. Basically, I can either tap a key on the keyboard and pull up a menu and select the PC that way, or I can just hit a button on the switch and I'm there.
The Cybex has no manual buttons, only keyboard access.

I would've liked to compare the Linksys to the Cybex AutoView line, but they're a little out of my price range. A 4-port AutoView is roughly $400 and up.

Info on the Linksys I got here

No, it's a 4 port, but I only got 2 sets of cables to start off with.
