Magnetic North Pole Shifting!!

Big news come as a side note (motherfuckers!! I guess they didn't want to cause mass panic):

'The airport has closed its primary runway until Jan. 13 to repaint the numeric designators at each end and change taxiway signage to account for the shift in location of the Earth's magnetic north pole.' It appears that the shifting poles have began to affect air travel in a somewhat modest way. Could this also be the explanation for the falling/dead birds this week?"
I hope the gradualists are right, but scenarios for rapid magnetic pole shift are fun to think about.

For decades, we've been hearing that "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, there ain't gonna be a magnetic pole shift", and now it suddenly happens as a side note somewhere ...

Shifts in magnetic poles and earth axis have been traded as doomsday scenarios often ... well, it appears the magnetic pole shift is already there.

OK, so, a poster on Slashdot said that runway renumbering b/c of shifts in the Earth magnetic field happens all the time.

Why do we have to learn about that like this?
