A FREED murderer was jailed for eight years yesterday after stabbing his twin brother in a row over a Mars bar. Thomas Waldie had been released three months earlier from a life sentence when he fell out with John, a convicted double killer, over the sweet and knifed him.

Waldie, 35, left his identical twin with a punctured lung, and went to a house in Kirkcaldy, Fife, to await the police.

Lord Hardie told Waldie at the High Court in Edinburgh: "This appears to have been a senseless attack resulting from an argument over a Mars bar. "Some mention has been made of your brother’s character. He is no stranger to violence and has two previous convictions for culpable homicide, but he is entitled to be protected as any other member of the public."

Waldie, unemployed, of Pollokshaws, Glasgow, was originally charged with attempted murder. But the Crown accepted his guilty plea to a reduced charge of assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of life.

Waldie admitted struggling with his brother, punching him and repeatedly striking him on the body with a knife at his home in Dysart, Kirkcaldy.

Angela Grahame, the advocate depute, said Waldie, who was jailed for life in 1987 for the stabbing of an Edinburgh pensioner John Jamieson, 65, was released on licence in November.
