A US Marine has been found guilty of killing a transgender woman in the Philippines.

Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton choked Jennifer Laude because he realised she was transgender while performing oral sex.
She was found dead in a hotel outside the former U.S. navy base north west of Manila.

He will serve between six and 12 years for homicide – a lesser charge than murder because there was no malicious intent.

Well he did kill her so I guess the sentence is right but I think this is a scenario that could happen to anyone. The woman should have been up front.

I wonder if he outright killed her (Which would mean he has a serious anger/mental issue) or if she somehow did something to warrant it?

It was a man acting like a woman.  The killer was literally forced into homosexuality without consent.  Pretty sure that warrants a response.  His response is wrong but I can't help to think that this was pretty much similar to rape - sexual motions due to fraud.

not sure why I said she (late night posting not a good idea), but out right killing someone does hint to other issues.

"Forced into homosexuality"

Um, no. One cannot be forced to suddenly become part of the homosexual environment. What she did was wrong, however killing is no excuse for simply getting into bed with someone you do not even know. This cannot even be compared to rape, rape is a horrific event where you're usually bound or a gun is held to your head while someone is having sex with you, I am pretty sure getting into bed with someone you do not even know and finding out they have different parts than you thought they did does not warrant the comparison of a horrific event.

Um,  yes. You can forced into the "homosexual environment" (whatever that is).  This man is living proof.  He has to live with knowing that he had sexual relations with another man even if it was only oral. This is in fact rape and is commonly called "rape by fraud". Many nations and US states have laws or are working on laws to combat fraudulent rape as well. You have to understand rape isn't about guns or force...its about informed consent.

He wasn't forced to do a thing; he found out he was having sex with a transgender and killed her. She wasn't forcing him to do anything, if anything, I am pretty sure he was enjoying himself until he found out the secret, in which he could have just stopped everything instead of simply killing her. I'm sorry, but self defense over sex with a transgender person doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. Sure, she should have said she was transgender, but saying he was justified to kill her and comparing the situation to rape is pretty bad. He could have stopped it all, whereas usually if you're being raped, you being held against your will. There's a huge difference there.

Rape is rape.  Sorry if you guys can justify rape in any form.  I Can not and will not. I am sorry she's dead but it was 100% avoidable. I believe two wrongs do not make a right. I'm out of this debate. My opinion isn't changing. You all can continue to discuss amongst yourselves. My disgust is complete.
