Anyone here have any recommendations for moving companies? Packing and Moving.

Illinois to Florida.

Any good experiences?

Help!! :giggles:

Yes, my ex-dh is a mover. Nelson Westerberg out of Elk Grove. They can hook you up with a long distance driver. You can give his name if you want he's one of the top guys. If you want I can ask him to see if one of his regular drives runs that way, you may be able to deal direct with the driver and get a better rate.

I worked for a moving company for 7 years, doing claims. Only advice I can offer is each company has good and bad drivers. Doesn't really matter what the reputation of the company is, it just depends who you get assigned to!

Just this week heard a great recommendation for 2 men and a truck

Sooooo................you're really moving? This isn't funny anymore. :pout:

I feel like Charlie in Two and Half Men when Rose said she's moving to England. :(

DUH! Haven't you seen my new signature? Yes, my beloved Steve is moving. This is sooooo wrong to take a Chicagoan and move to Florida. UGH Don't do it Steve. *sob*

We just moved from Chicago to the burbs.
We got quotes from: the professionals, new city, and jay movers. All were recommended on yelp. We choose new city because they had the exact date we were looking for and the were reasonably priced. The final cost was lower than their estimate. We moved a 2 bedroom condo into a house for $660 I think they estimated it at $750. The guys were professional and worked the entire time.

I'm confused - do they not have internet access in Florida? Have I missed stories about you guys shopping together? Having lunch together?

So long as Steve promises to still hang out with us, I think it's ok that he moves.

Well we haven't yet, but if he moves there'll be no chance. :cry1:

What I have to offer is this advice, be sure to get a guaranteed price- by mileage/weight/rate /day/mo on storage, whatever. Used Red Ball years ago and the driver held our stuff hostage for more cash. Trying to remember the other company, Bekins I believe, over charged us for storage...relatively same thing- held stuff hostage till we paid them the extra charges. Of course they wanted a cashiers check which I told them was impossible since bank was still out of state so they accepted visa and I promptly disputed the charges and won based on my guaranteed estimate of storage- they tried to say our stuff took up more pods than required but it looked like they left all our stuff in the trailer rather than taking out and putting into storage facility.

Good luck. Hated moving companies. I am sure there a good companies and drivers but having been burned twice it's a good thing to check them out first! Try angie's list maybe? could be a free trial.

Thanks Eggo! (:giggles:)
Yes, that is what we are doing. We picked 3 from Angies, also checked Yelp, and are calling them in the morning.
We are having them pack, so it will be insured...not that that really makes a diff.!!!

extra flight of stairs, truck inaccessible to point of transfer of goods, extra stop, etc etc. They seem to find a way to try to charge you extra knowing they have all the personal stuff you own inside their truck and they know you won't ant to walk away from it, and will just want to pay to get it over with. Last minute pressure ****, you know... I have heard numerous oher stories like that which I'm sure you have too or you woudln't be anal about investigating them.

We did have a fantastic local company move us when we went from an apartment to house so good mover do exist, i just got bad long distance experiences. I wonder what PODS movers are like.

I'm NOT doing the lifting!!! ....or packing...or moving. Proceeds from garage sale and sale of car is paying for that! Also, we are having a 1 day garage sale again, and then it's, Junk Removal 911 for the rest of the clean up in the basement. What doesn't sell at the garage sale, will get donated to Howard Brown. They come to pick up.
Once the packers and movers have been here, it's Maids for You to clean the house, and we're out'a here.

What about the CW bar-b-q to run down that stockpile?
