i'm shopping around for a pda for school this fall, and i've almost decided on a cheapish palm which was well reviewed on epinions. but i could save thirty dollars and get a casio pda, but it says the OS is "casio" - all the cassiopeias reviewed on epinions used windows CE, so i don't know what to think of a "casio" operating system

does anyone know anything about it? is it going to be bad if i get a "casio" operating system instead of the well-respected and popular Palm OS 3.5?

mj> What's the model of the Casio? Sometimes, if you check more than one vendor, they will give more detailed info on the model. And you could always check directly with Casio.

Personally, I prefer PalmOS based PDAs over CE based PDAs, simply because, on the OS level, it's much less bloated. CE allows for more bells and whistles, but that also brings more hefty hardware requirements, meaning more cost for the hardware.

And let's be honest... most people aren't buying a PDA to play mp3s, be a cell phone, and watch full-motion video in color. Typically, PDAs are used for keeping scheduling info, contact info, and running small programs and utilities. If a $150 PDA is going to handle 95% of the tasks that you'll run, the only reason to get a $300 PDA with 64MB RAM is for the geek-factor and bragging rights.

well approximately five hours after i did this research, i bought a pda with palm OS 4.0 - i'm very happy with it so far, but i spent 200, more than i had intended.

turns out the os in that casio was a casio-specific unpopular OS that they use in pda's not powerful enough to support windows ce, which is in their higher-end PDA's.

so i got a sony, and things look good.

Cool. I just ordered a Handspring Visor (which uses Palm OS) - I should have it tomorrow
