BUCALEMU, Chile (Reuters) - Officials placed Augusto Pinochet under house arrest and presented him with an arrest order for alleged human rights abuses during his 1973-1990 dictatorship.
Judge Juan Guzman reordered Pinochet's arrest and trial on Monday in a landmark move local human rights activists called their most important victory in their 27-year-old fight to bring him to justice.
Detectives, Guzman's secretary and another court official drove into Pinochet's coastal estate in Bucalemu 80 miles (130 km) southwest of Santiago shortly before 4 p.m. (1900 GMT) and left about 15 minutes later after Pinochet signed the order, witnesses said.
