I just heard on The Today Show where Matt Lauer said that later in the show they'll speak to WWE wrestlers Billy Gunn and Chuck Polumbo about their wedding nuptials!
Apparently they're getting married right there on WWE Smackdown this evening.
C'mon...if I had just seen it on Smackdown I'd have no problem believing it is fake...just a joke...but it's on the **** Today Show for crying out loud!!!!!!!

Does anyone know anything about this?
PLEASE FILL ME IN!

Yeah, I saw the WWE commercial on this.
It just looked sad. (note: I'm not a wrestling fan)

Interestingly, the media has picked up on it and called it a wedding ceremony; on last week's show, it was never referred to as a wedding. It is, as they say in wrestling circles, a "work": neither Gunn (which is not his real name) nor Palumbo (which *is* his real name) are gay "in real life". It's a publicity stunt, but at least this particular gay angle is being done in a more positive way than other ones done in the 90's.

By the way, the "couple" is registered at Pottery Barn.

By the way -- if you think this is bad/weird/odd/whatever, be glad you didn't see RAW on Monday, where the main event was described as HLA.

We found out later in the broadcast it meant "Hot Lesbian Action". Rude, crude, distasteful. At least the Chuck & Billy angle is being done positively.

I am totally at a loss for words!

okay maybe not totally.....
Just for the record, it isn't the 'homosexual' angle that bothers me. I couldn't care less who is gay or who is not...but can the WWE possibly sink any lower than this?!

For as long as I can remember WWE was a family oriented program. I used to take my son to the events every single time they came to Philadelphia.
I don't know what happened to them over the years. Are they really that **** greedy?

As for the 'hot lesbian action'....I heard that on Monday night. But I only just turned it on when that part started. I missed the beginning of the program and turned it off when I heard that.

It's a shame.
I wouldn't dream of taking my son to one of their matches if it was his last request.

I went to a SmackDown! earlier this year, and loved it; they're coming back to town (not for a TV taping, but back to town nonetheless) in October, and I may go to that as well. I'll watch on TV, until they cross the line they crossed on Monday, in which case I change the channel & start flipping until they eventually put "wrestling" back on.

And, I have decided I will not just complain abou ****, I will do what I can to change it, and I hope to have a job application in to WWE by early next week.

well good for you Possum!! I hope you get the job...or a job with them!

The way they have chosen to entertain is fine...for me or for my husband. But what bothers me is that this is a show my son grew up watching and still has the desire. He is young and I don't feel what they are showing is appropriate for him.

But I do the same thing you do.
I watch it til they cross that line... and you know it's inevitable! then I flip it.

Guess ****in' about it doesn't do any good so what's the point. ;)

Good luck with that job!

That's not exactly the point here LTF!
First of all...
I am not homophobic...even though I never said that up there in those exact words...thank you.
Secondly, it isn't the 'gay wedding' thing in particular that is making me feel I can't have my kid watch this program.
It is the whole BIG picture!
The entire 'change in the show's content'.
I'm talking about 'the bikini mud wrestling', 'the bra and panties matches', 'men slapping around women' and NOW....the whole 'gay wedding' thing.
I do believe everyone else here knew what I was getting at.
:madder:

I'm not afraid of my children finding out that...*GASP*..'people can be G-G-GAY!
My son knows what that is and HE doesn't have a problem understanding and dealing with it either.
The WWE is making a mockery of homosexuality if you ask me...and do YOU think it's okay to announce to an entire audience full of adults and CHILDREN that 'there's gonna be some Hot Lesbian Action' tonight on RAW?!
that is what I was getting at...not that it's wrong to be gay.

no need LTF...no need at all.
I got more upset than I should have! But I do believe you've known me longer than anyone on this board...you know me better than that.
stills friends? :)
