Politically correct?

Do people worry too much about being politically correct?
Do you think its important to word things in a certain way to avoid offending people?

Do you mean online or in real life? I try to be nice, but it never works.

Some things are a bit silly, like not being able to say "brain storm" and having to say mind map instead, but things like avoiding the use of "half-caste" or "wheel-chair bound" I kinda understand.

I believe in being polite, but not pc. Political correctness has gone so far that you cannot talk to/about someone in any way that would have been acceptable by the majority of all parties in the past.

I understand half-caste, considering it literally suggests that they are only half of a person, but wheelchair bound is just stating a fact, is it not? Its funny how factual points are now offensive nowadays.

More examples like epilepsy offensiveness from 'brain storm' include the 'Baa Baa Black Sheep', which is now Rainbow Sheep - stating that it is a black sheep is not being offensive or racist, it is simply stating that the sheep is in fact black.

No longer being able to call it a black board, but a chalk board, though the board is black. But hey, a white board can still be called a whiteboard, so everything is obviously just equal and dandy.

'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Happy Christmas' in case they offend non-Christians? Haha. Being a non-Christian, I still prefer the term Merry Christmas. :)

Some places even refer to manholes as 'personal access units' apparently, in case they upset women.

Oh, with rumours that job vacancies must be for applicants, and not hard-working or reliable applicants, as it may offend lazy and unreliable people.

Santa Clauses in Sydney are also unable to say 'Ho Ho Ho', as it may scare children and offend women.

Baha. Too far PC, too far.

Well, wheelchair bound suggests they are bound to a wheelchair which isn't even the case for some who just find it easier with their condition.

I agree that the world is too PC though. And sometimes in the wrong ways, especially in the US where they muted out the word "sin" in a song about threesomes (Britney Spears - 3). Quite a joke.
