Post Office will stop Sat mail, except parcels...

Honestly, I don't much care. I really can't think of anything I get on Saturdays that would be an issue if it waited until Monday.

I guess some people still get paper paychecks, etc, but most of what we get is junk mail. Definitely that can wait until Monday :)

I don't really get much mail anyway so no delivery Saturday really doesn't make a difference to me. Maybe it will bulk up the mail I get during the week. :giggles:

I'm surprised they didn't do this sooner.

Congress said they couldn't. Couldn't cut the Saturday delivery. So they didn't actually cut it, they will simply only be delivering parcel mail.

All very silly. I still don't understand why the USPS has to operate as a private business (with no government into their budget) and yet they need the approval of Congress to make any business decisions.

My DH is a mailman and the whole thing is messed up. Post office is under the jurisdiction of the government yet they are the only entity that has to prefund benefits which means they have to have all the money in place to pay out BEFORE they even need it. Don't know what is going to happen with DH because he only has 4 years in and his position isn't even called a "career employee." Feel like I got kicked in the gut today.

It doesn't start until August...

We don't have house to house delivery in our town, so no big deal...we can get the mail out our box anytime until Saturday evening...

They closed a post office in Glendale Heights and sent the mail over to Carol Stream. They laid off lots of the package sorters, so my mailman delivers the mail and sometimes has to go back to get the packages because they weren't sorted in time. Then he gets paid overtime to deliver those. Maybe I'm doing the math wrong, but paying a clerk hourly is less money than overtime for a long time mailman!

I don't care if my bills or junk mail comes on Monday, will only bother me if I'm waiting for coupons for a sale.

They closed the sorting office in Tucson last year. Now local mail in Tucson, a city of over a million, is trucked two hours north to Phoenix, sorted, and sent back to Tucson. It takes a full extra day.

This would have previously bothered me with ordering coupons & all, but since my Sat. mail hasn't been delivered before 5pm for months now I've gotten used to not getting it. Oh well....

I always thought the more logical decision would be to stop a weekday delivery (Wednesday) only because mail you would normally receive on a Saturday will now probably be received on Monday. (A 2 day delay since no deliveries on Sunday.) While mail you would normally receive on Wednesday would probably be received on Thursday. For some people this will make a big difference. Not sure how their next day will work with this.

Two pieces of "mail" in the box today.

charity solicitation
postcard that usually comes with Pennysaver but no Pennysaver

Yup - he could have saved himself a trip to my house today.

This. And for me...it will suck not to get my trades at least moving! I did a trade last Friday late in the evening. I mailed Saturday morning and she wrote me TODAY asking where they are. Ummmm....it takes more than 3 mail days to get to the coast! Imagine if she had to wait for a Monday mailing!
