We are getting another dog on Thursday from the humane society. He is a year old, but is so skinny, his ribs stick out. I need to fatten him up and the shelter said high quality can/dry dog food. So........what's some high quality dog food?

I feed my girl Blue, Nutro and of course the free Science Diet we all got a while ago. Blue and Nutro are not cheap. Congrats on the new doggie. What kind is it?

He's a chihuahua terrier mix. Very cute. I've always had large dogs all my life so this will be a big change for me. But when I walked past him in the cage, my heart melted (more so than the other dogs). I'll post pix of him and my psycho dog when they are settled.

Yikes! Is he hyper? Would LOVE to see pics! I hate doing "the walk" through the pound. :pout:

I've always used IAMS with my dogs. It was recommended years ago by the vet my parents took their dog to. I just used up the last of my $0.99 bags (thanks to the PetSmart $5 coupon) a little while ago and had to pay the big bucks for a 40 lb. bag. :(

My little doggie eats Eukanauba. It's what she was eating when we got her and she hardly goes thru a bag a month so the $ isn't a problem for it.

Don't overfeed him. Feed a proper portion, and his weight will stabilize on its own.

Thank you for shopping rescue!

No, he's not hyper. He's just happy. That's how I would describe him to anyone. And he likes to be held. And he cannot be any more hyper than the nutjob I have now. 2 years ago we put our 13 year old lab to sleep and got a 6 month old puppy. BIG difference going from blind, deaf and old to crazy as a lunatic.

Awww! See in general I would say I'm not a lil dog person, but something about the idea of holding a lil cuddler dog appeals to me. I lub my Sadie gurl so much, but she's far from a lap dog.

As much as my Mom's yorkie irritates the **** outta me, I do like to hold her (she loves it).......prolly the only thing I like about her lol.

I wanted to get a snuggly kitty for that purpose but DH said "uh..........HA!" :pout: I'm still working on that. ;)

I'm not a little dog person either, I like big dogs. Trixie (my psycho dog) would crawl into your lap if she could, but she's too big for that. We adopted a kitten last year from animal shelter b/c I wanted something to cuddle with b/c my other cat was antisocial. Well, this little snot DOES NOT LIKE ME. She only likes my dd! So my hopes are pinned on Pickles (that's his name and the kids want to keep it!)

I love the name Pickles! :bliss:

The best cat I ever had was a stray that kept coming to my parent's house when I was in high school. He was a black and white boy and sooo loving. He was declawed so I know he was someone's pet. Well right before Christmas we had a huge storm and he was outside our door. My Mom said I could not bring him in so I put a covered wicker bed outside with a water bottle under the pad. He went in there then I covered the whole thing with a blanket and checked on him all night. After several days my Mom said I could bring him in BUT I had to sleep in a closed room (on the floor) with him to see how he was. He was great. He stunk from eating crap which got better. I named him JoJo.

If you want a good quality but cheapish food, kirklands brand by Costco is really good. I like anything you can buy at little ma and pa type pet stores. They usually only carry the quality stuff. I feed my baby Fromm and she loves it!

Wellness is high quality, Evo, Innova, Taste of Wild, Organix-I think I've seen this at Trader Joe's and possibly Jewel; these are considered
high quality, but they do cost more. There were a couple others all ready mentioned and many more besides that. Congrats on your rescue!
