This has been in the news for a couple of days now, but BBC reported about a "robot" actress debuting in Japan (picked up via Slashdot).

I wouldn't call this a robot, it's a Geminoid F android model, and it was remote-controlled. The video didn't show proper excerpts of the play, so it is hard to tell what atmosphere was created during the play.

Also, the motions aren't very sophisticated at the moment.

Here's another video:
(CAUTION: Video contains view inside the android and its metal skeleton! ;) )

They definitely need to work on expressions. Why didn't they take (license) the work of those people that have already solved the facial expression problems??
If they would all work together, they could come up with a marketable solution far more quickly.

Just saying ... if they all would work together, we would have android robots by now ... they keep showing the same things over and over for decades, b/c the research groups aren't working together.
