Have any of you been scammed by people who think that it's funny to pick on your email account?
There was a few emails from an indian email address that decided to impersonate my ISP. Pretty nasty thing to do. When I got this email I immediately forwarded it to my ISP telling them that the email is a scam.
They told me to block them. I have now got my email address protected by my ISP's anti spam program.
It will catch those buggers out.
Some years ago, I noticed that e-mail turned up in my spam box that contained e-mail addresses from IANA's public internet port number registry. Since I have a port registered there as well, at least the e-mail address I used then must have been used as the fake originator of many spam e-mails.
Other than that, my spam folder contains literally all kinds of spam. I'm glad I'm using my ISP's spam filter.
Many e-mail addresses used for spam nowadays come from so-called bot-nets, which are virus infected computers remote controlled by criminals. Perhaps you should check your computer throughly for viruses, trojans and other malware. Also make sure you have a genuine copy of your operating system, otherwise you're fair game for criminals since pirate copies of commercial OSes are often tainted and might come with some malware included that might be invisible to virus scanners etc.
People who are most likely to get scammed are those who think they're too smart to get scammed. And when someone gets ripped off, they may not report it because they're embarrassed because they fell for it.
I had scam artists a few years ago who kept calling me pretending that they were from my bank. They said they were going to send me information about some program they had, but they needed my conformation number first.
Representatives from your bank don't call you up like that. They mail you info. Besides, a bank will already have necessary info.
Part of what makes many people vulnerable to scams is that they don't want to be rude to a person who may be a scam artist, as they don't want to run the risk of being rude to a person who turned out not to be a scam artist.
I SCAMM NOOBS ON RUNESCAPE ALLLLLLL DAY, IF YOU PLAY YOU MAY KNOW ME IM THE BEST OF SCAMMING ON RUNSCAPE IVE SO FAR COLLECTED 6 STACKS OF MAXIMUM MONEY (1 stack on 1 account but six accounts) SO GET AT ME!
Many people would like to tell someone who scammed them what they think of them. But the problem is that most (if not all) scammers could care less what everyone, including you, thinks of them.
