I personally think it should. Nothing really good comes from drinking alcohol. It mainly causes damage to the consumer and to the people around them. Just in the US an estimated 88.000 deaths were caused by alcohol consumption, which was the third leading preventable death in the United State, according to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Not only were the death that high but also the negative impact alcohol had on the economy of the United States. In 2006 alcohol misuse costed the US $223.5 billion.

I'm not saying making alcohol illegal will solve all of this but at least it's a step in the right direction. People will still purchase it on the "black market" however it will be harder to obtain which would ultimately lead to less death and a smaller impact on the economy of the United States.

It should be for my family, but it will never happen. Also the USA did ban it once and it didn't end pretty. Considering all the drunks out there, banning Alcohol would lead to a lot of trouble.

Hell no! I am a casual drinker and I think that alcohol is one of the few things that helps me - to some extent - deal with my anxiety problems. The fact that people abuse it and blame alcohol for the things they do while inebriated doesn't mean that alcohol is a bad thing.

Wouldn't a ban of this substance lead to another Prohibition Era? Where even more violence and sketchy acts occurred, more so than just letting alcohol be legal?

I mean, almost everyone drinks, so this will lead to some audible problems.  Plus, passing such a law would take forever.

I drink only once in a blue moon, but even though even I know it can be a problem, I don't think making it illegal will help anything. The more restricted it is, the more people tend to want it- look at the rate of other illegal drugs being used by various people. In the end, it's all about the people that use it and want to use it. You can warn them the dangers, but they'll do what they'll do.

For me, I only drink a couple times a year and only a cup, because I'm a lightweight...And I get migraines from it. Why do I do it anyway? Before I get the migraine, it makes me feel calm for a bit. Like Alakazam, I have anxiety issues, and sometimes it actually helps them for a bit. I'm afraid to see most people drunk ironically though, because my dad was attacked by our drunk neighbor pretty badly a couple times in the past...But I don't blame the alcohol, actually. I blame the person who drank it [because he was already a horrible person anyway].

As a person who has never drank, I would enjoy this but its something that can never work though I think it would work if individuals were banned instead.

No. As a history major I must tell you we learned this lesson the hard way between 1920 and 1933. It was a massive failure. Please study history.

Pretty much, yeah. Prohibition was a huge nightmare in the US. If it happened again it would be ever worse than it was the first time.

Making it illegal won't fix the problems, ok over here there have been quite a few deaths related to alcohol with the violence lately. But there are many ways to make it yourself and he police won't be able to police it. The governments won't let it happen due to all the money they make re taxes from it, and pubs, clubs are to much of a big business to let it happen.

Indeed. Prohibition lead to the rise of organized crime. It's taken decades after prohibition end to quell the Mafia. By the 1990's they we're silenced but not entirely gone. Now imagine a new prohibition  - one in a world where organized crime already exists. The Mafia, the Mexican cartels, etc would be huge and in control. We already see failure in marijuana prohibition but just consider that the demand for marijuana isn't even a fraction of what the demand for alcohol would be.
