Do you think there should be a surgeon generals warning on mcdonalds products?


Also has anyone seen the movie "super size me"?
I saw the movie 3 months ago, and i havent gone to a Mc.Donald's since.(or any fastfood chain, except subway and potbelly's )
 
I don't think there should be. People know that its "junk" food and that its bad for you. My sister saw the "30 days" movie. From the details she was telling me, I don't need to see it. lol I'm sure that movie didn't help McDonalds sales for awhile, but we unfortunatly are creatures of habit, and we will return to our bad eating habits. (most of us anyway)

But I agree, that after hearing about the movie, I think twice about stopping.

I saw the movie about a year ago, and have had McDonalds once since then. I think everyone has the same reaction when they see that movie.
That movie also helped to spurn me on to a somewhat healthier lifestyle. Since seeing the movie, I now go to the gym, have tried to do a full calendar month without drinking any soda, and generally eat smaller portions.

But I'm of the opinion that an official warning is unnecessary. No one is under any illusions about what McDonalds food is. People know going in that it's not good for them. If they overindulge, it's because they are gluttons, not because they're uninformed. There has to be some common sense and personal responsibility about things like this, not government intervention. We don't need a warning about every little thing that's bad for us.
If someone, right now, doesn't understand that McDonalds food is not healthy, at the outset, IMHO they are an evolutionary casuality. They don't need to be warned... they need to be put out of their misery so they can't contaminate the gene pool any further.
 
I agree. Having a Surgeon General's warning on McDonalds food is a dumb idea. Although, as stupid as it is, it might help in those instances where people sue McDonalds, claiming it was their fault they got fat (remember that case?). That way, the idiots that would try and do such a thing (like sue a fast food joint for making them fat), wouldn't be able to.
I mean, wouldn't most people with logic know about the risks of such food?

That case was what spurned Morgan Spurlock to make the movie, and was part of the documentary. For what it's worth, the "fat people" also lost that case, as the judge threw it out.

One thing people need to remember is that it's impossible to legislate stupidity out of the population. No amount of laws, warnings, or regulations will protect people from their own stupidity, and they'll continue bungling themselves into the messes they get into.
 
I saw that movie right when it came out, great documentary! I don't think a warning is necc...then Wendy's and all of the others would have to do it too, where would it end?

I did not watch this movie, cuz I do not like such kind of junk brainwashing.

McD-ds is great. It's french fries are best - this is a truth. There are alot of people who are eating there only because they do not have alternate way to feed. I do not use this restoraunt, only because I prefer to cook by myself ... and I have opportunity to cook :nod: and ... the nearest one is only 4 miles from my house. Awwww...
 
IMHO I don't think it was brainwashing. Most people know that if you ate McD's everyday for a month you would end up looking like Grimmace.

Just like people know that smoking,drinking, unprotected sex, driving without your seatbelt, not wearing a helmet while on a motorcycle, sticking your finger in a light socket, and my ex-husband, are all bad for you. Not necessary to have the surgeon generals warning on them, except maybe my ex's forhead. :nod:

It was a brainwashing! I know alot of people who are eating mostly @ McD's and who are healthier than those who are spending thousands dollars for eating organic grass from wholefoods. The secret is simple - You should to burn callories you ate, You should to move, to exercise. :lol:

It was a brainwashing. You know, this fat guy made accent only on junkie food. But he does not accented his pig-like way of living - he was mostly motionless guy, who wasn't exercising. As the result, people are thinking that it is only McD's junkie food is the reason of their problems. They do no think, that without motion they will get the same problems with any kind of food/restourant/diet.

I second that, MJ. Sugeon Generals warnings don't work on anything! Which brings me to another point, aside from the point that any person with a shred of logic would know the risks of fast food- The warnings are useless. So, why should they waste the time and money on something that will just be ignored anyhow?
It's just human nature, think about this- when someone purchases something, like a box of cigarettes, or something of the like, they do not look all over the package for a warning of the product's hazards. It's not something that poeple look for, think about, or pay attention to. Believe me, we all do this. It's just not natural for people to buy something and search for the Surgeon General's warning.
 
There's a difference between liking McDonalds food, and not realizing that it's not good for you. I like McDonalds too, but the reality is that I try to eat it as little as possible, because I realize that it's inherently unhealthy for me.

As with most dietary things, everything in moderation is fine. As long as you treat it as a once-in-a-while treat, it's not going to do you any harm. But if a person is a glutton, always stuffing their face with a double quarter pounder with cheese, then they're really going to get what they deserve for their stupidity.

:nod: Yep! That right words ...

Anyway, will repeat again and again : there are many peoples who are eating there only because they do not have alternative. I mean, it is very smart to say : You are dumb enough only because of You have and they do not have money for a healthy food.

And ... one more time - I know many peoples, who are healthier than most of You, guys, and they are eating in McDonalds. You know why? Only because of they used healthy way of living - they are exercising enough to burn excess of fat. What does it means? It means only that it is dumb enough to blame McDonalds, only becayse of Your laziness :nod:
 
there are PLENTY of healthy foods that cost much less than mcdonald's food - eating fast food every day is a comparatively expensive way to live, vs. making your own food.

i like mcdonald's food too, and i'm not going to stop eating it. i exercise enough that i can maintain a fairly healthy body despite my not-great diet - that may not always be true, and i should consider changing my habits before it's "too late" and i can't change my dietary habits.
 
Even if you exercise enough to burn off the fat, you probably still retain all the cholesterol - especially if you're not eating lots of fiber and/or healthy fats.

I like McDonald's, too, don't get me wrong. But I also have sky-high cholesterol (good and bad, thank god), so I try to avoid most things like that. Of course, with a french fry loving four year old, that can be hard :|
