I'm not sure about Slashdot's demographic, but in this current poll, out of 28664 votes (snapshot taken around 2:45 pm CEST on May 26), only 22% fear loss of job (7% think they might get fired, 15% think they might get laid off). An overwhelming 49% say they might quit their job.

The full results from the current snapshot:
  • 7% think they might get fired
  • 49% think they might quit
  • 15% think they might get laid off
  • 6% think they might go back to school
  • 13% think they might die on the job
  • 7% think a natural catastrophe might destroy their workplace

So, to analyze that further, 49%+13%+7%+6% = 75% who believe that their job is secure and that only a catastrophe (death or disaster, 20%) or themselves (quitting or going back to school, 55%) decide when it's over.

Interesting! :)

I'm self employed. Firing me would basically mean having a couple hundred customers telling me off... not terribly likely : )

I bet it would be interesting to know how many Slashdot users are self-employed. :)
