so what are you thinking right now?

speaking of blends, it's amusing to hear someone who doesn't speak a language try to pronounce a blend common to that language...

for instance, the Polish language has some crazy blends.... dz, cz , sz...... crazy tricky to pronounce if you haven't grown up with them

blends are two consonant sounds blend into one sound but you can still hear the separate sounds.

digraph are two consonants that make one sound (no blending) and you can't hear the individual sounds.

I have trouble with "th" because there is no "th" in my native tongue and I have substituted it with another sound and my tongue is conditioned to say it that way. I know in my head but my tongue doesn't. :-)

Thank You! I hope your daughter and her party peeps enjoyed them! :bliss:

fyi, I keep adding pictures to that album, so they won't be pics 3-6 for long :giggles:

Yes they did!! Thank you!! There was not a single cookie or piece of cake left.:pout: I actually didn't even get to have a cookie, but my DH said, if it makes you feel better, I had two. On the flip side, he didn't get any cake and I had two pieces.

Oh and mrsmom, you should come down and get baby sniffs. He smells extra wonderful because yesterday was his Baptism day and they smeared the fragranced holy oil all over his head and it smells GREAT!!

There's a very slight, difficult-to-discern difference to the non-Polish ear, between the Polish words for "you're welcome" and "piglet" :giggles:

... and my kids are still trying to pronounce the word "three" in Polish .... "trzy" the right way

wow, glad to hear (not sure that is the right expression, just glad I am not alone) about you others having kid's with speech problems. My DD3 was also in the AT RISK program thru the state and just finished cause she turned three. Well, because of that she qualified for free pre school in our district and started last week. I could have sworn I asked the teacher, "are the kids in her class all just speech problems like her and came from the AT RISK program." to which I got a yes. Well, last week I volunteered already in her class and there are 4 boys with behavorial issues and while I was there, my DD was the recepient of a hit to the hand from a flying object from one of these boys. teacher did not see it, only I did b/c I was next to my daughter. This was the 2nd offense from this boy in 5 minutes. The other offense teachers or aides did not see either. There are 1 teacher and 3 aides to 13 students.

SOOOO, now I am in a quandary of what to do...do I pull her out, do I wait and see, talk to the teacher to get better understanding, etc. Just not sure what to do and DH and I have not had time to discuss yet. parent teacher conf are in 2 weeks. Just not sure what to think or do or what my options are.

I already did at the IEP meeting. However, I don't want him to miss what goes on in the classroom either, because I feel that is important too. It is a catch 22. In all reality, my son is not severe, so they feel what they is giving him is appropriate.

I have the mentality of "fixing" everything while he is young. I have been to several of his language sessions while I have volunteered at his school and I think they are doing a great job with him, I just don't know how much he is learning. I work on using prepositions with him at home aka--"The hat is on my head." But he will say, "The hat is IN my head." He has worked on prepositions so many times, but still doesn't get it.

The pediatrician thought that he probably didn't need additional services and I talked to his SLP and she said that she wouldn't recommend outside services. I am of the mindset though, that I want to give him as much language immersion as possible now since this is when they are learning the most. I don't want him to struggle throughout school if there was something additional I could have done. I am a very type A personality and I want my son to do well.

I also fear that the language issue will carry over into the social aspect and he will have a hard time making friends or obtaining or maintaining a job. My brother who has a brain tumor and has always struggled to make friends and is struggling with something realistic to major in. He is "smart" like my son and earned his associates, but there are other issues he has associated with the tumor including language and there are no services at his age to help him since he doesn't have severe problems.

Make sure there is some continuity between the two therapies (district and private). If they are both working on different aspects or using different techniques to address the same issue it may become overwhelming and/or confusing for him.

Middle kid needed speech intervention and reading intervention. We paid for therapy to avoid the issues you've mentioned. Yes, we could have had resources for free, but we could pay for better, so we did.

What issues are you referring to? Money isn't an issue per say, but spending $3xx on a therapy session seems excessive especially since I don't know if they will do provide different results than the $85 therapist. Then there are the colleges that offer private therapy for $720 a semester, with two 50 min. sessions a week, but done by students. So there is more time there, but the quality might not be as good. So lost in this world of trying to do what is best, but also being money conscious so DS can maintain the other experiences outside of therapy.

Using the fact that I have barely eaten the last few days to boost motivation to eat better and exercise more. Soooo we are going to give our couch to a girl I work with and get another recliner, to make room for a stationary bike. Pat's mom has a really nice one in her basement just sitting there. We figure the living room is the best place for it because if we put it in the bedroom, out of sight, out of mind AND since Pat and I do not work the same schedule, it can be used pretty much any time. We have a recliner and a love seat so we have places to sit until we get a second recliner, probably after the new year. BUT the couch is going and the bike is coming SOON. BRING IT ON!!!

Wondering if Cool Whip is going to make their Sweet Cinnamon version again this year. I bought a ton of it last year and we are on our last tub :( We love it in hot chocolate and a scoop can cure my sweet tooth :(
