windows 2000 task manager is wonderful, but sometime in the first week of having my computer everything above the information portion of the task manager window disappeared - that means the title bar, window controls, file menus etc, and selection tabs are all gone
i can still get to selection tabs with the tab and arrow keys, but i'd like to get it back to normal and i've tried everything i can think of
anyone?

i had the same thing happen to me! when i told my friends that are computer nerds they acted like i am crazy. i didn't find any cure for it, though. MAYBE there is something since i had that problem on the microsoft website. but i didn't fix mine until i reinstalled, which i mainly did cause i accidently crashed (winDVD does not like win2k... don't do it!!!). so you could either reinstall or repair. i haven't had the problem this time around...
Only time I've seen that is with buggy video drivers. Maybe, try updating the video drivers to the latest version. If you already have the latest drivers, trying reinstalling them from a copy other than what is already there.
I haven't seen exactly the same thing as what you're describing, but I've seen icons within applications get corrupted. Installing updated video card drivers fixed the problem.

you know, i had the most up to date drivers for my video card installed when i had that problem. i dont even know if i reinstalled all all my drivers after i reformatted my hard drive... i really don't think i did for the video card. i will have to look now when i go home...
oi, i don't know if maybe your problem was slightly different, or if i'm about to make a few million people slap their foreheads noisily, but i accidentally double-clicked in that window outside anything useful, and the title bar and menus came back. i feel dumb.
