Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) urged the government to reject American aid that could help a portion of the 13.8 million people impacted by monsoon floods that, over the past two weeks, have killed over 1,600 Pakistanis - a crisis the UN has described as the worst natural disaster on record.
TTP spokesman Azam Tariq asserted the government shouldn’t accept any aid from the U.S and that the Taliban will give $20 million to the flood victims. Mr. Tariq said:
“We will ourselves distribute relief under leadership of our chief Hakimullah Mehsud among the people if the government assures us that none of our members will be arrested. We condemn American and other foreign aid and believe that it will lead to subjugation. Our jihad against America will continue.”
