Police hunting for mystery mother who abandoned her one-year-old with babysitter she found on Craiglist
Cecilia Long responded to a Craigslist ad thinking she’d get some extra work as a babysitter, but what she got was a whole lot of trouble.
The Indianapolis woman saw the ad last month, close to Thanksgiving, and offered her babysitting services.
Ms Long told WISH-TV: 'I was trying to help myself and my family, and I got burnt. I thought baby-sitting would be a nice, easy way to help someone else in need and help me.'
She agreed to watch the woman’s child, a one-year-old boy named Kameron, for $75 a day.
Ms Long said: 'It was like a win-win situation.'
But the 'win-win' situation did not last, as the mother, known to her only as 'Jen,' would leave Kameron with her for days and nights on end. Ms Long was also not getting paid.
But the ordeal came to a head this week when Jen dropped off the child and never came back.
On Tuesday, Ms Long called the Jen to find out when she was coming to pick Kameron up, but was told: 'it's not my problem'.
Concerned, Ms Long called the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, who began an investigation.
Abandoned: The one-year-old boy known only as Kameron is now in the custody of Child Protective Services
When officers tried to call the same number, the woman told them to 'Quit calling my f***ing phone!' and hung up.
Officer Anthony Schneider told Fox 59: 'During that conversation, the officer could hear some loud music going on, what sounded like possible partying going on. But it was unclear of where she was located.'
The cell phone has since been disconnected.
One of the only thing that Ms Long knew about Jen was that she was an exotic dancer at a nearby strip club called Rick's Cabaret.
But when cops went to that location, they were told that no one named Jen worked there. Several people have contacted Fox 59 claiming they have seen the mother in the Indianapolis area, but it’s not yet known whether police have been able to get in touch with her.
Ms Long said the mother may be riding around in a maroon Jeep that belongs to a friend.
Kameron is now in the custody of the Department of Child Services.
Ms Long said: 'I'm thankful he is OK, and I provided excellent care. I just feel sorry his mom [doesn’t want] to be a part of his life.'
