Although the Nissan Leaf is the best-selling electric car on the market, its impact on Nissan’s financial statements is negligible. Electric cars are a niche product and will attract only a small segment of the population. The Nissan Leaf is not immune to this reality. That being said, Nissan hopes to address two major pitfalls of electric cars, namely their long charging period and restrictive price, with the arrival of the new 2013 Nissan Leaf.

For 2013, Nissan adds a new entry-level model to hopefully attract more buyers to its showrooms. The Nissan Leaf S will be available starting at 31,698 $ before taxes and preparation, a difference of more than $ 6,500 with the base price of the 2012 Nissan Leaf. Taking into account the 8,000 $ incentive offered by the Government of Quebec, the 2013 Nissan Leaf will not be much more expensive than a well-equipped compact car.

The Nissan Leaf SV will be available from 34,998$ before taxes, preparation and government incentives. That price is nearly 3,500 $ less than the current base model. Finally, the SV version will start at 38,398 $ and will be equipped with leather seats, 17-inch wheels, LED lights and a 480v quick charge port capable of recharging 80% of the battery in about 30 minutes.
