"Once upon a time, a deals forum was born.
For Lo, a Great Many posts regarding a Monitor Deal from Buy.com were made in the blessed Hardware Forum, and the Mods saw, and were vexed.
Then, from a User came a new Thought, a Forum for Hot Deals, including the Deal that spawned the Necessity.
And Anand stretched forth his hand, and a Forum sprung from where there was naught.
The Users saw this, and It was Good. [The mods were still vexed that such a Forum need exist.]
Yea, verily, the deals were posted here, and all did partake in the deals equally, and without rancor towards each other.
Then came the time when the First Deal dissolved into the Great Lawsuit, and the Users were aggrieved against Buy.com, and some such as Russ of Compucheap and Others did File and were bought off by Buy.com.
Then did they turn against their brother Users on the board, crying, "Yea, verily. You needst not pursue your case, for all is good with Buy.com! Leave them be."
And the other Users, who had not been bought, saw this and were aggrieved, saying "Yea verily, you have been Bought, and did cheerfully sign an NDA, and sell us out!"
Thus were the two companies of Anandtech divided.
The fell company of Russ and Red Dawn, and others did sow discord among the Members, bestowing kisses upon the hinder portion of the Mod's vexed personage, and suggesting all complaints were frivolous, e'en while reaping the rewards of other's work.
And in the early days did they call down the name of Staples, ordering many items with multiple coupons, and justifying it to themselves as a proper use since THEY were the ones to use them, and not others.
And the Users saw this, and were vexed. But still did they hold their tongues, for the Deals were good, and the Mods were smite happy to those who would challenge the words of their chosen.
Then was the Name of the Hot Deals board spread across the ethereal wind. Many from the fell Lands of Mycoupons and AOL didst come, sewing discord through trolling, and attempts to prohibit the use of publically available coupons.
The Mods saw this, and didst Ban the Trolls into the far reaches of the Ethereal Wind, not least because of the trolling on other of Anand's creations.
The Trolls, being not afraid, didst return under many guises, and the Mods did Smite blindly, Banning many IP blocks and Email domains to the far reaches of the Ethereal Wind.
And the Users saw this, and were Vexed again, for the Mods were banning ISP's, and bounteous email addresses, and the affected Users had to re-register each time.
And yea, then did the Mods initiate new Rules, saying "There shall not be gambling, nor referrals, nor money making in these halls."
And the Users saw this, and were content with the Rules, for even They has been vexed by these problems.
And Lo, the name of Staples was called down yet again by the New Users to join the Forum of Hot Deals. Yea, many coupons were posted, and many orders were delivered before Staples did see.
Even in their Stupidity did the New Users call forth the Great List of Coupons from Staples' site, and did mis-use them. And Staples saw, and was vexed.
Staples stretched forth their hand, and didst sweep away all the orders, charging rightful use and wrongful use full price for the misdeeds of a few. And thus were the orders cancelled...
Then did the Soccer Moms and Daytime Trash invade the forums of Hot Deals, once again shutting down deals with many frivolous calls, and posting Tampon specials.
But the Users did respond, sweeping the Forum clean again of the Soccer Moms, save a few who decided to stay. [Mycoupons IS suck, I didn't blame them.]
And Time Passed. And Ashford, and Buy.com, yea verily, many deals did take their use among the many of the Forum.
And the Users saw this, and it was Good.
But Lo, the Forums were once again invaded by the Trolls. Their haven, known as AOL, didst refuse ALL attempts at recourse, so they were Banned.
The Users saw this, and were vexed.
Then came the Deals of Staples again, with many posts of public coupons from the Lands of Yahoo, and Altavista did the Coupons come. And the Soccer Moms, and Vipers with the New Users didst report this to Staples, who were once again Vexed.
And Anandtech didst ban Staples coupons twice. But the New Users would not take heed, and didst post coupons again. Thus did the Mods implement many a fell policy, with widely varying rules, some unpublished.
And the Vipers, who didst in a spirit of fell nature, began reporting deals they considered "fraudulent", [In this they meant ALL deals they didst not wish to use, or had used.], even ones involving Price Matching.
And their cry was heard by the Anandtech Administrator, who did ban ALL coupons, regardless of use or domain.
And the Mods, secretly hoping for the downfall, didst Revel in this, and didst send forth their lackeys, known as Elite to Troll the Forum, and make the users wroth.
And the Cry was Great, the Users filling tens of tens of pages of the Forum with their anger. And the Elite, Russ and Red Dawn didst stop, and Troll the threads crying "Thou didst deserve this, the deals are for Us. Your lot complaineth for no reason, and we will shout you down, and have thee banned."
And the Mods, seeing their Elites in action, didst Ban any that Questioned their actions.
Yea, even the bannings themselves.
And the Elites did cry, "Get thee hence, this is a forum for Us, the Elite. It need not be here save for us. Go!"
Then didst the Elite return to the OT forum, and Brag of their Trolling, promising bans for all those who would question them, and making themselves even unto Mods.
And the Users left, some grudgingly, some gladly. For the Mods and their policies didst stray, and e'en some of their number didst shy from this action. Scrolls of the Dissenting Mods do indeed still exist on many Deal Boards.
But still do the Elite stay, making sarcastic commentary of the Deals, and proving the title's true icon should be the head of a braying a$$.
For verily, that is what they are, they and their Fell Company.
