I have listened to the news alot recently, I feel really sorry for you Americans, has anyone been affected by this?

I say what they should do is bring in Airport Fire Engines and then once the foam is layed down, no more fires will start!

OR! Bring in more troops from abroad, like the good Irish Fire Brigade, (

) or bring in the IRAQ Fire Dept.

I heard also on the news that its costing your government $10million dollars a day!

WOAH!

they were talking about bringing in Mexican fire fighters and Austrailian fire fighters to be in charge of them cuz the auzzies have a lot of experience in this stuff

Does anyone know if the fires started because of humans or nature? I mean, if it's from nature, aren't those things sorta natural and kinda good? (Not good if your house is burned down, obviously, but doesn't nature go through cleansing rituals like this? I mean, Indians used to light fires on the planes and stuff to encourage new growth or something like that.)

I've heard something like that too, mth...I don't know how they were started though...

It appears most are started by lightning http://www.nifc.gov/news/sitreprt.html

I would definitely say that previous suppression of natural fires has undeniably contributed to the severity of things this year coupled with unusually dry conditions.

A couple of relevant links.

Severe Storm Labs Fire links:

Satellite link (You can see the smoke trails eastward across Montana from the MT / ID border) Select "Conus Vis" as your source and note that once it gets past dusk the visible images will be without sunlight and useless.

Hope this is of interest

I dont know about you, but I'd be a little bit worried about running out of oxygen with all the plants gone.

You are quite welcome. Sometimes the better resources are deeply buried in those zillions of pages of the w3. I try to cut to the mustard and share the better resources I find out there.

Also, on the nym:
It's Pyroxy ( Pie-Rocks-E ) not proxy <G>

Provided I used my poor grasp of geography correctly, that's a darn lot of smoke. And I'm sorry for spelling your name wrong. I've always read it as Proxy
