Turkey attacked Syria today in retaliation for an artillery shell that hit a Turkish village on the Turkish/Syrian border earlier today killing a woman and four children. NATO is backing Turkey's actions. Some politicians expressed worries about the situation.

Meanwhile, Syrian insurgent troops increased pressure on the Syrian regime.

Mark my words, their will never be a lasting peace in the Middle East.

How do you know that?

Europe has managed to end its wars and so can the Middle East -- if they want to.

What's happening in Syria right now is a civil war, and so far, the conflict between Turkey and Syria is only a fringe conflict.

Turkey is a NATO member, and if Syria would start a war with Turkey, the entire NATO would come to Turkey's defense.

There's some really bad aspects in that whole thing, b/c Russia (and possibly China) are allies to Syria.

The whole thing could quickly escalate into World War III.

Bombs on your town too, potentially.

Nowadays the world is so networked, that no single conflict anywhere is local to that area anymore. Any conflict affects everybody.

Considering that many of those in the Middle East who fight each other don't even know why they hate their enemy, it's a safe bet that the Middle East will never see peace on a consistent basis.
